sandymc Posted September 6, 2007 Share #1  Posted September 6, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) A few months ago, Andy Barton suggested using the core of CornerFix to modify DMR files to look as if they were M8 files, and so allow Apple's Aperture to read them. As part of building CornerFix for the Mac, I've now done so.  You can download a first beta version of DMR2M8 for the Mac from here:  SourceForge.net: CornerFix  Just follow the "Download CornerFix" link, and then select the DMR2M8 package  Note that in order to get Aperture to read the files, two changes needed to be made to DMR DNG files:  1. The camera name in the EXIF data is changed to M8  2. The DMR's 16-bit data is truncated to 14-bits. Note that the files isn't compressed as is the case for the M8  You will need the latest version of Mac OS and Aperture - the ones that can read M8 files(!)  In order to install the software, just unzip and drag DMR2M8.app to your Applications folder.  As this is a close cousin of CornerFix, you can even still devignette you images  Please read the QuickStart document for important usage information.  Enjoy  Sandy Enjoy Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Â Any chance you can re jig a version of this not to rename the exif camera tag but just converting to 14bit? then I can give a profile based on the matrix 1 & 2 values for both the R8 & R9 DMR's with reasonable colour accuracy?. This is now available in the same place, as version 0.9.1.3. I've implemented it as a user selectable option in Preferences.  Note:  1. In order to disable the overwrite of the EXIF data, you must go to Preferences -> General, and deselect overwrite.  2. Eoin Posted September 11, 2007 Share #9  Posted September 11, 2007 OK here we go again, another hack of Aperture to use the R8 & R9 DMR files. A huge thanks goes to Sandy for cracking the 16bit limitation I was having problems with. Sandy kindly placed an option inside CornerFix to leave the Exif tag untouched and not use the M8 profile. I have 2 profiles based on the Matrix values inside the DMR DNG so colours should be better than those form the M8. Depending on which R body you use you'll need to copy the relevant profile or both into the raw.plist.  Further info for hacking the raw.plist can be found here http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/30398-m8-apple-aperture-resource-info.html  I hope Andy won't mind me using the images he gave me some time ago to show the results.  Firstly Andy gave me a raw file and a jpg,  First is what happend with the 16bit colour depth in aperture  Second is the raw file converted with Sandy's application brought into Aperture and exported for web no adjustment.  Third is Andy's Jpeg resized for web.   For you DMR users who wish to use Aperture, try the profiles and don't forget to de select the option in CornerFix for overwriting the camera name with M8. If you don't like the conversions, no harm! just re-enable the overwrite and continue using the M8 profile  Thanks again Sandy, this one is down to you. Respect Welcome, dear visitor! Eoin Posted September 17, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted September 17, 2007 Just following on from Andy's problem, I neglected to say if at some time in the past you had hacked the raw.plist to create an R8 entry you need to delete that entry before copying in the new entry.
