Leica US repair warranty confirmation

In another thread there was some discussion over whether the repair warranty Stefan Daniel mentioned in the Reichmann M9 interview is standard in the US as well.

Dave Elwell confirmed via email this morning that the Leica USA repair warranty is just as it has always been, and just as Stefan said:

When a camera is sent to Leica for repair, the company quotes a price for a full going-over of the camera, making all adjustments and replacing all parts as necessary to return the camera to like-new working condition. If a customer accepts the estimate, Leica does all these things and returns the camera with a full one-year warranty on parts and labor.

I hope this helps avoid some confusion.

I'm sure the issue has been clarified in the other thread by now, and figured posting the answer here would be better for anyone curious but no longer following the other thread.

Thanks for the confirmation. It makes sense, too. Based on my conversations with the folks in Solms last June it was clear that they couldn't let a piece of equipment leave their shop unless everything about it was corrected, not just the problem for which it was sent to them. Having done that, it only stands to reason that they would guarantee their work.

It also jibes with my experience a couple of years ago when I sent in my M8 for something and they also changed the back screen (which was scratched) and re-calibrated the viewfinder, neither of which I had asked for. No charge, either, as it was under warranty at the time. Certainly left a positive impression on me.

As you say, Doug, it stands to reason. That's probably the main point if you stop to think about it.

Of course the one-year guarantee statement is printed on the estimate for any billable repair.

No other camera company does something similar, so far as I'm aware.
