I can't see anything anywhere on the camera for control of any digital function - looks like a true digital MP. With only 600 units it won't be cheap! New 2.4 Summarits - the 2.3/35 ASPH interests me.

wattsy Posted September 16, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 16, 2014 New 2.4 Summarits - the 2.3/35 ASPH interests me. Yes, that was pretty much the only thing that caught my eye although according to the forum blog the optical designs haven't changed but have had the production tolerances improved to gain the extra 1/8 aperture value. An interesting tidbit is this: "The lens design for the Summarit-M 35 mm includes one aspherical lens element, the predecessor included the same lens element, but it was not mentioned in the official lens name." MarkP Posted September 16, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted September 16, 2014 Thanks Ian, I didn't know that. The 35 Summarit will need to have improved edge performance to entice me (had one & sold it). What I'm really delighted about is that I have no Leica GAS of any financial significance. And no new Monochrom for me to worry about upgrading to ! Well maybe a new D-Lux. And no Zeiss GAS for the new 1.4/35 ZM as I have a 35 Summmilux. However, if that softly rumoured Hasselblad Digital X-Pan eventuates......
Paul J Posted September 16, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 16, 2014 I'm gobsmacked and utterly amazed. This is everything that they should be doing and more. This is everything I love about this company, there is nothing else in the world like it. I just wish this M60 made it into standard production in some form. PLEASE Leica. MarkP Posted September 16, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted September 16, 2014 Note Leica also removed the thumb-grip on the M60 to thin it down. There is a neat little metal rectangle instead of the front screw on the M-P. Why didn't Leica just do that in the first place with the M-P.

LocalHero1953 Posted September 16, 2014 Share #7 Posted September 16, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) What caught my eye was the sad comparison in size (of the images on the page) between the MP and the MA. If only the M could move towards the MA in size......... The M60 image is smaller than the MP, but I assume that is not a real shrinkage. I have zero ambition to have a M60, but I am pleased that Leica is the sort of company that wants to make such outliers.
wattsy Posted September 16, 2014 Share #8 Posted September 16, 2014 Thanks Ian, I didn't know that. The 35 Summarit will need to have improved edge performance to entice me (had one & sold it). Yes, agreed. I still have a 35 Summarit and like it a lot but also think edge performance is not its strong point (the Summarits were originally released when the M8 was top dog and I think edge performance was overlooked). I was tempted by today's announcement as a possible replacement of both my current Summarit and Summilux (I like to simplify my camera gear) but there is no point if it is essentially the same lens in a new look lens barrel. E46 too – not sure what I think about that change. I also rather like the M-A – I like the retro aesthetics of it (screws visible in the leather, etc.) – and it is good to see that it is priced at the current MP price rather than used as an opportunity to introduce another price rise. I used to have a meterless MP Classic and, on balance, preferred it to my metered MP (I have no idea why I sold the Classic in preference to my metered MP). There was a time I might have been tempted to get an M-A but notice that there is no black paint option (MP cameras are meant to be fondled as well as used and black paint has the superior tactile quality:D). rramesh Posted September 16, 2014 Share #9 Posted September 16, 2014 Note Leica also removed the thumb-grip on the M60 to thin it down. There is a neat little metal rectangle instead of the front screw on the M-P. Why didn't Leica just do that in the first place with the M-P. And we will soon see an M-P-P or even a M60-P
bybrett Posted September 16, 2014 Share #10 Posted September 16, 2014 M without a screen, M without a red dot, MP without a battery and some silver lenses. D-Lux looks useful...
Paul J Posted September 16, 2014 Share #11 Posted September 16, 2014 The show stealer is the Leica S with 4K. While I'm not selling my Phase One just yet I have heard that it is, apparently, going to wipe the floor with everything else going.

wattsy Posted September 16, 2014 Share #13 Posted September 16, 2014 Noticed that the M60 doesn't have any strap lugs. That rules it out for me.

Paul J Posted September 16, 2014 Share #15 Posted September 16, 2014 Maybe it comes with a free broom. Das Wesentliche and all that. I think it's referred to as the Mikrofibre-S.
mmradman Posted September 16, 2014 Share #16 Posted September 16, 2014 Noticed that the M60 doesn't have any strap lugs. That rules it out for me. Strap lugs would be lost on display cabinet queen.
andybarton Posted September 16, 2014 Share #17 Posted September 16, 2014 What caught my eye was the sad comparison in size (of the images on the page) between the MP and the MA. If only the M could move towards the MA in size.......... An M-P is 139 x 42 x 80 mm An M-A is 138 x 38 x 77 mm The images on the website are clearly not to the same scale. sblitz Posted September 16, 2014 Share #18 Posted September 16, 2014 Looks like the re-invented the M4 with the older style rewind and 75mm framelines......hmmmm, perhaps I will stick with my M4.

jpattison Posted September 16, 2014 Share #20 Posted September 16, 2014 Noticed that the M60 doesn't have any strap lugs. That rules it out for me. Yes, what's that all about? You would think they could incorporate the new T fitting, but with a leather strap. John
