Cornerstone for Leica's return to Wetzlar ...

I took a look in Leitz Park on Sunday on my way back from Germany and there's some earth clearing going on, they've even tidied up the area in front of the existing buildings though it's hardly pristine. There's now a muddy roadway going across it, presumably to provide access to the new site.

 

Did make me wonder what will become of Oskar Barnack Strasse in Solms when Leica move to Wetzlar. It would be unfortunate if the street named after the inventor of the Leica 35mm camera then only lead to the local sewerage works.

"Return to Wetzlar" ... oh my. They've never been away, really. The distance from the current plant in Solms to the new site in Wetzlar is just 10 or 11 km as the crow flies (approx. 6.5 miles).
