Advertisement Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Hi ho_co, Take a look here Cornerstone for Leica's return to Wetzlar .... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted April 24, 2012 Share #2 Posted April 24, 2012 I took a look in Leitz Park on Sunday on my way back from Germany and there's some earth clearing going on, they've even tidied up the area in front of the existing buildings though it's hardly pristine. There's now a muddy roadway going across it, presumably to provide access to the new site. Did make me wonder what will become of Oskar Barnack Strasse in Solms when Leica move to Wetzlar. It would be unfortunate if the street named after the inventor of the Leica 35mm camera then only lead to the local sewerage works.
jaapv Posted April 24, 2012 Share #3 Posted April 24, 2012 It appears \Leica is planning to hang onto the old building. Possibly to expand production, I might suppose they could relocat CS there as well.
01af Posted April 24, 2012 Share #4 Posted April 24, 2012 "Return to Wetzlar" ... oh my. They've never been away, really. The distance from the current plant in Solms to the new site in Wetzlar is just 10 or 11 km as the crow flies (approx. 6.5 miles). Anyway—this is how Leitz-Park looked like six weeks ago: Leica M9 with Summilux-M 50 mm Asph (#1, #3, #4) and Summarit-M 75 mm (#2)
LucisPictor Posted April 24, 2012 Share #5 Posted April 24, 2012 Funny. "Spilburg" was one of the Army barracks when I was in the German army in Wetzlar.
