lburn Posted December 3, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted December 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) On my Summicron 35mm the lens aperture ring moves past the marked F2 stop position by a very small amount. Looking at the front optic I can see the aperture widen so that the lens is now wide open whereas at the F2 stop setting a fringe of the aperture leaves is visible. What is the practical effect of this? Is the lens at F2 at the marked setting and slightly wider when I go past it? Is this quite common (the lens is a new copy of the current version). lburn
Advertisement Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Hi lburn, Take a look here Real maximum aperture setting. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
digitalpowershot Posted December 3, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted December 3, 2011 Tried it with my Summilux. You can turn it past the f/1,4 by a very very small amount, but it does not stay that way, it jumps right away back to the initial f/1,4 spot.... jaapv Posted December 3, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted December 3, 2011 It has been asked before. The consensus is that there is no perceptible result.
Double Negative Posted December 3, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted December 3, 2011 Just look through the lens or down the front of it against the light. First at f/1,4 and then all the way to "lock" - see if there's any change. More than likely, there won't be. Once the blades are fully retracted (or out of the way) that's it. ho_co Posted December 4, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted December 4, 2011 It's normal for some designs. Enjoy it!
