Hi JC,

Thanks. These images look of terrific technical quality on my glossy iPad screen.

You obviously took great care of your lens. Congratulations for your fine lens.

For how long have you had this particular lens in your possession?

Best, K-H.

It is a second hand (at least) in "mint" condition, that I bought around 20 year ago.

With regards to the 1978 batch, were those lenses of type Telyt or as listed by Puts type Telyt-R?

What's the difference?

Best, K-H.

My documentation gives me that the 1978 batch is for Visoflex M attachment

the 1500 made in 1969 were version II and were for the Leicaflexes.

(I suppose they were mounted on the Televit with the R attachment like some others Telyt)

May be some experts here can tell more about.

The reason I am asking is https://www.leicashop.com/vintage/telyt-11914-48280mm-p-381.html.

The lens is listed as Telyt 11914 4,8/280mm, Type: 4,8/280mm, Serial Nr.: 2933513, Year: 1978.

near mint, late Telyt 280mm 11914 for M, good lenses, small haze inside, caps.

Appears consistent with JC's documentation.

May be then, Erwin Puts needs to update his table - unless I read his table the wrong way?

Best, K-H.

I think it's an error (typo) made in editing Puts'list (there are several, in his very useful list)... a Telyt R 280 4,8 does not exist... and the first 280 for R (Apo, f 2,8) arrived to the market in 1984 (Lager says it was tested at Winter Olympics - Februrary, which easily explains the "1983" numbering).

My one is from the last batch (3.059.688) and, apparently, ws indeed sold as 11904 (lenshead only).

Simple ring, inside thread... a good machine shop could make one, in case one can't find it...

Hi Luigi,

Many thanks. I now see how it works.

Splendid!

Does it only fit version 3 of the lens?

Best, K-H.

No, 280 V2 has a collar (see under) that can be unscrewed, and has the same thread of the 14138, so that it can be screwed onto. This thread is the same of the Bellows 2... but, as pointed in this thread, the V2 has a larger barrell and can't "enter" the Bellows...

Does the version 2 lens head with 14138 properly fit into the Televit?

Perfectly (even if the look is a bit less "clean" that with V3 head)... I have the impression (just tried) that the focusing is someway different from V3... with the V2 I seem I can go easily "beyond infinity"... but isn't a problem with reflex focusing, and the Televit has its proper knob if one wants to stop the infinity position.

Hi Luigi,

Many thanks. I just stuck v2 lens head into my Televit (of course without adapter yet) and it fits as you pointed out.

Proper knob is true. I wonder though whether great changes in temperature don't necessitate readjustment of the knob to stop infinity?

Best, K-H.

I doubt, Leitz' engineers I think have taken care to use proper metals

Hi Luigi,

Thanks. I certainly hope your confidence is justified!

That would be another major improvement over my tele Nikon lenses.

As the Nikon folks have to take these variations into account, there is no definitive stop at ∞.

It's difficult to focus on ∞ when the light slowly disappears.

Best, K-H.

As little it will be the metal changes in dimensions under temperature variations.

I use sporting scopes with up to 45 x magnification and I have to readjust the parallax during the course of the day.

Luigi, can you contact COMA people if they are able to make some 14138 adapters ?

Contacting COMA "people" (1 person - Adriano Lolli) is not an easy task... I sent them a mail over 20 days ago (for the 800 ring... ;)) and as of today got no response (in the meantime, found another way...) ; the phone number is active Mon-Thu 10-13 only... tried 7 or 8 times - no answer...

In case, if you (or others) are interested, I can make a (hopefully... :o) precise engineering drawing of 14138, inspecting my item, and sent it to anyone who likes; around my town, as you know, good machinery shops abound... maybe I could even contact some to see if they are disposed to do the job....

Hi Luigi,

If you could do that, that would be terrific!

I am definitely interested in buying 2 adapters - you got to have a backup.:)

Best, K-H.
