I know it is a beautiful lens and wondered how others have found it functions on their M's. Any examples to share?
Advertisement Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Hi algrove, Take a look here APO 280/2.8 APO Telyt-R + M240. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Rick Posted September 28, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 28, 2013 Hi Lou, I love this lens. It is almost as sharp in the corners as the famous and hard to find 280/f4 APO of which Leica only made 2,000. Stopped down it comes very close to the 280/f4. This is a really nice lens and somewhat attainable, still. It has the advantage of being able to produce an excellent image at f2.8. This gives it a stop faster shutter speed advantage over the 280/f4 APO and sometimes at this long focal length that alone will give a sharper image. It is nice to have the choice of the faster lens. I have both the 280/2.8 APO and the 280/4 APO at this time and both are excellent. I have shot both on the new M and they are just extraordinary. Color and detail from the Leica sensor is amazing if, you can keep the lens stable with a heavy tripod. I don't have any worthy photos to post yet with the M, but here is a pretty good picture from last summer's trek into Glacier National Park shooting Mountain Goats. These where with the 280/4 APO and are already posted in the photo section so, I'll refrain from reposting and just link: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/nature-wildlife/253390-mountain-goat.html
algrove Posted September 30, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted September 30, 2013 I was hoping to see a lot of photos, but I guess this is such a rare lens, images are few and far between.

Lou, Unfortunately many of us with the lens do not have a Leica M. Also, at this point, I am using my 280mm f4 Apo Telyt much more due to its size, weight and performance. k-hawinkler Posted September 30, 2013 Share #5 Posted September 30, 2013 Well, I have the APO-Telyt-R 280/4 and a set of very accurate Novoflex adapters. I wonder whether these adapters were part of their testing? LensRentals.com - There Is No Free Lunch, Episode 763: Lens Adapters The 280/4 can be focused with a NEX camera and then shot on an M9 - still in focus. Of course, that process is a bit slow for BIF. So, my OM-D E-M1 should arrive tomorrow. It should make a fine combo with the 280/4, including extra reach and IBIS!

So, my OM-D E-M1 should arrive tomorrow. It should make a fine combo with the 280/4, including extra reach and IBIS! Way back last December I posted some photos while using the 280/4 and my Monochrom. At the time I had focused it using the GXR and then slowly mounted the MM after finalizing focusing on the GXR. Seemed to work well enough, but it requires much patience. Forgot that many do not have the M yet. I have a few to loan out. Just joking. The plan is to have one with R lens attached and the other for M lenses and street. I am still trying to figure out where my Monochrom will fit into the equation. Two bodies OK. Three bodies a crowd. Perhaps only using the M will be the answer, but the images that ai have captured with my MM still inspire me to make more. For landscape I still carry my V+P45+ and an M. On occasion I carry the MM too. My Think Tank SpeedbFreak V2.0 works very well for any two of the above, requiring one Leica around the torso. H-K did you rent an M for a week or so yet? You might become connected.

sc_rufctr Posted October 6, 2013 Share #10 Posted October 6, 2013 Is it possible to use the lens handheld or do you always need a monopod/tripod? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD I own a Leica 250 F4.0 and it's possible to hand hold it but it's best on a monopod/tripod.
