Shac Posted July 15, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 15, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wonder if anyone can help (so far google hasn't nor any of the other obvious sites) - I have an Elpro VIIa that I would like to use on my 90mm Elmarit (second version). Under the mistaken impression a 14225 Ring was the answer I bought one - it isn't. Does anyone know the thread & pitch size of the VIIa? My rough measurement suggests 53mm but no idea about thread pitch. Thank you in advance David
Advertisement Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Hi Shac, Take a look here 55mm Adapter for Elpro VIIa?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
farnz Posted July 15, 2013 Share #2 Posted July 15, 2013 David, I know that the Elpro VIb's thread pitch is 0.75 mm so it would make sense if the VIIa's thread pitch was the same but I regret that I can't confirm it. (As you probably know by now the 14225 adapts a Series 7 filter to a lens with a 55 mm filter thread.) Pete.
Shac Posted July 16, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted July 16, 2013 Pete - thank you - yes I discovered it was only for filters. I'll keep trying on the web incl the -bay Best David
wildlightphoto Posted July 16, 2013 Share #4 Posted July 16, 2013 I used a 54mm-to-55mm step-up ring to use E55 filters on my 90 'cron so I don't see why a 55mm-to-54mm step-down ring wouldn't work for your Elpro.

dkCambridgeshire Posted July 20, 2013 Share #6 Posted July 20, 2013 (edited) These are the diopter strengths and thread sizes for Leica R Elpro supplementary close-up lenses: Series VI and Series VII types: Elpro VIa: 2.51 diopter M44 x 0.75 Elpro VIb: 4.92 diopter M44 x 0.75 Elpro VIIa: 1.66 diopter M54 x 0.75 Elpro VIIb: 0.75 diopter M54 x 0.75 Some of the earlier Leitz VIa and VIb c/u lenses are called Macrotar rather than Elpro but they are the same specification as the Elpro types. Later 'Dual thread' and regular 55mm thread types: Elpro 1: 2.51 diopter Dual thread M55 x 0.75 and M44 x 0.75 Eplro 2: 4.92 diopter Dual thread M55 x 0.75 and M44 x 0.75 Elpro 3: 1.66 diopter M55 x 0.75 Elpro 4: 0.75 diopter M55 x 0.75 I use modified Elpro and Macrotar c/u lenses with Leica X1 and X Vario digital cameras and the combinations give excellent results even when stacked e.g. three Elpro VIb lenses stacked onto the front of a Leica X1 via a 49mm filter adaptor ... and the same stacked combination on the front of the X Vario at the longest 46mm (70mm) zoom setting via a modified 43mm filter ring (43mm filter minus its glass, epoxied to a VIb Elpro) Best wishes dunk Edited July 20, 2013 by dkpeterborough
tobey bilek Posted July 21, 2013 Share #7 Posted July 21, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) You can adapt with a 54 to 55 step up ring. You will not like the results. Spacing is very critical with the Elpros and quality suffers. Find a proper 55 Elpro.
Shac Posted July 26, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted July 26, 2013 I found this on the bay - a Bower Series 7 to 55mm Step Adapter-Ring VII 55 mm. It just arrived and while not an engineering masterpiece it appears to do the job - at $4.95 hard to complain:rolleyes: Thanks everyone for your help - much appreciated David
Shac Posted July 29, 2013 Author Share #9 Posted July 29, 2013 I also followed Toby's suggestion of getting a 54 to 55 step down and that just arrived - works fine and actually has better threads than the Bower Series 7 to 55mm Step Adapter Again thank you everyone for your help - most appreciated David
