Here it is. I paid more than Dunk suggested but I got a one owner camera, a Swedish owners manual (dated 1927) and the camera felt very good in my hands. :)

Congratulations - they are fun cameras and work well being very sharp at middle distances, not so sharp at long distance i.e. over 50 feet.

A very beautyful 4 - digit IA. Serial No. expected between 4800 - 7000. The speed dial knurling is typically in the 5500 range. Quite rare is the unmarked aluminium front cap.

regards - Ottmar

jc - Was the collar around the shutter button standard ?. Mine doesn't have one and I notice in von Hasbroeck some have and some haven't. I wonder therefore if it was an extra or whether mine has been lost.

Yes, it was standard. Many went missing as the collar had to be removed to attach a cable release........

Also, during the 1950's when a plethora of Leica copies came out of Japan, there used to be many 'soft' releases, which screwed in place of the regular collar. That probably also accounts for the missing standard collars.

Best,

Jan

I wonder if that is true. On the oldest pictures the Leica I (Fritz Vith, 1930) it is always without the release guard. I think the release guard wasn't introduced until the advent of the Leica II.

Picture in Fritz Vith, Leica Handbook, 1930. I think the oldest picture of a Leica I without mushroom release.
