echorec Posted March 5, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 5, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just stumbled across this one and I am curious: Which was more common - black or chrome with the preset diaphragm? jc_braconi Posted March 5, 2008 Share #2 Posted March 5, 2008 Some years ago I asked that to PHvon Hasbroeck. The answer was: " the black one is the most encountered". here is mine Welcome, dear visitor! tobey bilek Posted March 9, 2008 Share #4 Posted March 9, 2008 No actual numbers but I have seen lots of Chrome presets and never a black one. Lot of blacks without preset though.

Guest Posted March 9, 2008 Share #6 Posted March 9, 2008 There is another problem: Does the aperture of the lens go to 16 or to 22? Of course, the barrel indicates 22. Are the serial numbers of lens an barrel the same? (Mostly you can find the numer of the head also in the barrel.) I only know preset 2.0/90 with aperture going only to 16. str. Yes, for what I know, the preset facility was only to f 16; but, to complicate things, it must also be taken into account that the Summicrons of this kind were "composable-reworkable" a lot... there was the short mount Viso version (the preset diaph. was originally made for this), but one could buy separately the long mount (and I think the long mounts were all engraved to f 22), and also the preset facility was available separately : INVOO / 00001 : chrome or black ? it was available until 1974, a time in Summicrons 90 were provided black only... Guest Posted March 9, 2008 Share #8 Posted March 9, 2008 There are more complications, I think. Of course you can combine short mount Summicrons and long barrels. The first type of barrels go to f. 16 and have coarse focus knurl, they are screw mount barrels, most of them have factory fittet M mount and the red dot. The lenses also have f. 16. There two types of knurling of the end of the barrel. The second typ of barrels has f. 22. The knurling is a bit different and changed often. They ar only M mount lenses, I think. The lenses have fitted to thes barrals go also to f. 22. There is in my opinion no preset Summicron originaly with this barrel. Of course you can combine all detachable Summicron heads with all barrels, either f. 16 or f. 22. Sometimes you must adjust the barrel, for the focal length of these Summircon differs often a little bit. The lense head on the picture I bought last year at Vienna, the barrel at Stuttgart, the adjustment was made in Hannover, but you can find also lenses with aperture preset and long barrel, bearing the same serial number: Regards Stefan

luigi bertolotti Posted March 10, 2008 Share #12 Posted March 10, 2008 Mine has 22: 22 on the preset ring !!! I thought it didn't exist... really would like to compute how many different configurations can be made from this venerable lens... from math istinct (to be verified)... I'd say at least 2^5=32... or 2^6=64...
