Elmar-V 65mm

Hello, All,

After many years of watching, waiting (and missing) several Elmar 65mm (second series) lenses, I finally landed a 1970 sample for a reasonable price (but no bargain). Glass is very good (a few cleaning marks with flash light), cosmetics are excellent. Although the aperture adjuster ring and pre-selector work, they are rather loose and I will send off for a little TLC. When I mounted the lens onto focus helical 16464, I became aware that there is no place to "grab" the lens other than on the aperture selector or pre-selector ring. This makes me think that a previous owner used more force than was necessary to attach the lens to the helical or Bellows II, or whatever it was used for.

Question is: other than using a rubber band on the recessed part of the lens barrel just behind the selector ring, how is one to attach or detach this lens without destroying the aperture rings? Design flaw...?

Other question is the filter size: 1973 catalog says Series VI with 44mm retaining ring #14160. Sound correct?

I appreciate your learned input.

Best wishes,

David

Yes, there is no way to grab the lens by hand, other than keeping one or both the rings... a bit annoying... but usually it doesn't harm the diapragm mechanism... also for the 65 doesn't need to be tightened so much on the focus unit (it's a "naturally stable" fit, given the shape and weight distribution of the lens) ; moreover, is an action that probably one doesn't make hundreds of times (the lens can be used on the bellows also mounted on the 16464)

The black version mounts series VI filter with retaining ring as stated.

Better to let the lens on the helicoidal ramp, it is not the must on the bellow, Elmarit 2.8/90 is the choice for this IMHO.

Usually the lenses with preselection dia ring have the the dia one relatively free on their course for rapid use.

Enjoy your lens
