it looks like a set of accessories so that a 50mm lens can be used for copying/close up work, usually with a special sort of camera holder to set a pre-determined distance from the item to be photographed.

Gunnar,

The black item is quite a helpful gadget, if you use an LTM 3.5/50mm Elmar - its code name was VOOLA. If you own a 50mm Elmar for a screw mount Leica, you will know how difficult it is to change the f-stop.

The 'VOOLA' will clamp over the front of the Elmar and a small cut-out will fit over the f-stop adjustment of the lens. When attaching, make sure that the lens is set to f:3.5, as well as the VOOLA. Once you clamp the VOOLA down, you'll be able to turn its outer ring and change the f-stop much easier.

The other item is a close-up attachment, its code used to be NOOKY. It can be used with an Elmar 3.5/50mm lens and will focus (IIRC) from 1 meter to about 50cm. The Elmar lens is bayoneted into the NOOKY, using the rear mount of the lens in its collapsed position. Then - the whole contraption is screwed onto your Leica body and focusing is done via the lever on the NOOKY.

The NOOKY will not only adjust for closer focusing distances, but also for parallax and the smaller field of view when shooting close-ups. There are two black plates inside the rectangular opening which fits in front of the finder of the Leica; those will move in and out as you focus the lens.

Those are just quick instructions - you can find more information by Googling the code names.

All the best,

Jan

The chrome device is a well known one : a close-up attachment for Elmar 50 on LTM bodies, code NOOKY (version for Summar and Hektor did exist, code NOOKY-HESUM);it was listed for lot of time, before and after WWII. Easy to use: you mount the device on the SM of the body, then mount the Elmar in the front BM of the NOOKY using the BM of the lens tube of the Elmar, the one that in the normal use of the Elmar fits to the focus mount when one gets the lens extended: the focus mount itself, when you use the NOOKY, remains "floating" along the lens tube: its position does not matter. When correctly mounted (more difficult to explain than to do) you have a lens that focuses from 1mt to 0,5 mt, RF coupled and with reduced field corrected (see the black mask that rests in front of the standard VF window). Simple, fine, works correctly, a typical product that displays the engineering finesse of Leitz devices even in small accessories. I think it had a good sales success (it's easy to find), and, BTW, Leitz produced a similar device for M bodies : code SOMKY (then 16507) : it could mount retractable lenses (Elmar or Summicron) with the same principle, OR the lens unit of fixed mount Summicron using an adapter ring (OUEPO then 16474) : the combination Summicron/SOMKY/OUEPO looks something similar to the well known Dual Range Summicron (that uses a different principle) : the "goggles" are identical in look. And... a similar device was designed also for Elmar 90 on BM bodies (OMIFO, seem to remember)... but was not produced in quantities : very rare.

I have spoken a lot of the NOOKY ... but cannot say anything about the black "hood" on the left of your pict ... do not recognize... it resembles the hood for the 10,5 Elmar... but could be also some hood with f/stops coupling for Elmar 50... it existed, I have not... don't know...

Default AW: Please help me identify these

Thank you very much Jan & Luigi!

I have tried both accesoires on my Elmar now and they seem to mount/work fine.

Best regards,

Gunnar

Just to add a little info to the VOOLA: it was originally sold as an f-stop adjustment aid when the 50mm Elmar was used as an enlarging lens on a VALOY enlarger. The aperture adjustment is a nail breaking experience during daylight, in the darkroom it was just about impossible to close the lens down without leaving fingerprints on the front element.

Only later did Leica users discover how useful this little accessory was and started using it as a lens shade on their Elmars.

I think the hood is a VALOO not a VOOLA. It combines the function of a VOOLA with that of a lens hood.

Absolutely correct, Alwyn.

The VOOLA was used inside a standard FISON lenshood and the combination of the two performed similarly to the VALOO, without the f-stop display.

These old Leica codes do indeed get confusing sometimes.

Best,

Jan
