I found this diagram in a copy of My Leica and I.

Fascinating: a real artwork; and incidentally I own the Hektor 7,3 illustrated; thanks for the link: I try surely to make a good print of it...

That's interesting; my copy (my father's actually) does not have that illustration, or, in fact, any illustrations, just text and photos. Which edition do you have? Mine does not say and is un-dated, so might possibly be a first edition?
It certainly is a good illustration.

Pete - It is a loose sheet in the book and I have since learnt was a page from a pre-war Leica Illustrated News.
