I just returned from Yosemite Park and Pacheco Pass testing this film with 35m aspheric summicron...exposed 3 rolls of 20 purchased at KSP in Palo Alto, Ca. on 10-16...will report on my observations soon...I will be scanning on an Imacon X5...I will be looking at color and black and white conversion results.

I had some sent to me by a friend who picked it up at KSP.

Basically, it's extremely fine grained. I expected it to be slightly sharper - not that it isn't sharp, just that it's only slightly sharper than say Portra VC, whereas it has much finer grain. I've tried it at a variety of speeds and will most likely shoot it between 64 and 100. It's a very welcome addition IMO. Shot with a 28mm Elmarit ASPH at f5.6. This is a 4000SPI drum scan.

Bloody Hell:eek:

I mean. Goodness there some detail in that. Welcome to the forum, Don. Can you post more images some time, general use, in different types of light? (hate the misused word 'genre', I suppose I could have said 'other than arhitectural genre'...)

Regards

Hi-

Kodak was giving out free samples at Photo East yesterday & I was just out shooting in a nearby state park trying to catch the last of the fall foliage. It's going quick here in lower upstate.

It's supposed to be fine grained and very saturated. I'll get back when I see some results.

Healthy Shooting,

I just wanted to share my own experience with Ektar 100 (full disclosure Kodak is a sponsor of my long term project, the Europeans, and brought one of my images to promote Ektar).

I normally shoot Tri-x but when I got an email asking if I would be interested in testing the new Ektar I said yes. I remember shooting the Ektar 25 as a teenager and thought it would be a fun exercise. So I went to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens and shot a bunch of available light images of flowers since they said the colors on the film were amazing.

They were indeed. This film has a color saturation much close to slide film but with the increased latitude of a negative. What impressed me most is how scannable the film is. On many of the images I did not retouching other than cropping out the excess black that my Nikon Coolscan V captured. I shot these images with my EOS 3 and an extension tube on my 85mm f1.8 lens and scanned them using the Nikon with Digital ICE (I scanned a few without ICE and the results were the same but slightly dustier). You can see more images at my blog here.

Kodak was impressed enough to buy an image and I have to say having shot a lot of color neg in my earlier days the results I got far exceeded my expectations.

I am also impressed that Kodak is still invested in making film and coming out with new films. This is the best argument against all those who say film is dead.

As I didnt know this film, I had to look it up:

In summary:

Professional Ultra Colour are replaced by this film at 100 and by Portra at 400.

Its grain is as fine or better than Ektachrome E100G

And accordint to Kodak, E-6 processing is becoming less readily available

The last point was a shocker for me. I havent seen this yet, has anyone else?
