Where are all the CF 22 reviews?

It's been a little while since the CF 22 was announced and either all of you who own it are totally happy with it and not saying a word or you're keeping it a big secret that Leica has produced a lemon.

Usually, I'd see reviews by now on BHphoto.com. Just how good is the CF 22? I love my D-Lux 4 with ambient light shots, but always felt the colors looked washed out when using the built-in flash in nighttime/club situations. Has anyone tried their CF 22 in low-light situations? How is the color saturation in all of your images?

products being announced, and products being available are two very different things :)

does anyone actually own one yet?

It has just the right size to take it with you in your jacket pocket (but back in the 80´s i got a BIG Metz for that money;)).

Apparently, you are not capable of tilting the head for bouncing the light off a ceiling or a wall. If this is true, I think you could get a similar flash for about one third of the price.

Am I missing something? Is there anything special about the CF 22 besides the red dot logo that is worth the price?

The lack of a rotating head is a hugh limitation for interior flash lighting, IMO. That said, I am still interested in this or some other add-on flash for outdoor fill-flash. Sometimes there are challenging high-contrast lighting situations that require fill-flash (like portraits on a beach in bright sun). The pros use diffusion-scrims and bounce-disks in this setting, but that requires a team of assistants. A nice add-on flash can do much to achieve a semblance of the professional results, and usually a rotating head is not required for this work. That said, are there other flashes that will work on the D-Lux 4, or are we limited to the CF22?

If it's the same pin config as the previous Leica flashes then you can use a Nikon SC-17 cord to take the flash off-camera. I have done so successfully in the past with my M7.

Hello All,

Recently i've played around my leica D-Lux 4 with couple of other friends on Nikon and Canon DSLR. Surprisingly, their model of flash unit works well on my D-Lux 4 while if it were to be tested on Canon and Nikon (vice versa) it aint work! Somehow, i realize the D-Lux 4 is compatible with the retail Canon and Nikon Flash plugins.

Anyone had similar experience on other flash unit that works on D-Lux 4 ?

I need to buy one though,, :)

I've gotten my SB400 and SB600 to fire with my D-Lux 4, but you can't control the flash. It just fires at the strongest setting.

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't know if it is the same pin config, but I suspect there might be a better option in terms of value and performance.

The Oly FL-36 works really well with the DL4, including TTL-Auto compatibility. Now that it has been replaced by the FL36R (wireless), the FL36 can be had for a pretty good price, but you will need to go around for one :-)
