Advertisement Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Hi paulr, Take a look here M8 & Digiscoping. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted October 17, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 17, 2006 How would you focus?
paulr Posted October 17, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted October 17, 2006 Steve, Not sure, hence the question. On the leica website, there is a 'televid - photo adaptor - R9' setup, and was wondering if the same would be possible with M8. Cheers Paul
stunsworth Posted October 17, 2006 Share #4 Posted October 17, 2006 Hi Paul, sorry if I was being a bit vague. With an SLR, or a digital camera with a live view, you can see the image that's going to be taken through the standard lens. With an M you only have the viewfinder, and that doesn't show what the lens on the camera sees - i.e. there's no live view of what will be photographed if you press the shutter. paulr Posted October 17, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted October 17, 2006 Many thanks Steve, Looks like the M8 wont be suitable. I didnt particularly wont to invest in a R9, digital back & lenses. Am not sure if Leica have plans for a digital R in the near future?? Paul
stunsworth Posted October 17, 2006 Share #6 Posted October 17, 2006 Thinking about it you could always use a Visioflex - assuming it would fit on an M8 :-)

miami91 Posted October 17, 2006 Share #8 Posted October 17, 2006 Yes, it's the LCD you'd be missing, so using the M8 is probably a no-go. I do some digiscoping with my Televid 77, D-Lux 2 (soon to be D-Lux 3), and Leica's adapter. And although you set the focus on the camera to infinity, you do focus with the spotting scope's controls utilizing the camera's LCD. You also frame the image in the same manner (using the camera zoom and by adjusting the scope, adapter, etc.). Truth be told, digiscoping is somewhat tedious, but the results are interesting. philipotto Posted October 17, 2006 Share #9 Posted October 17, 2006 Jeff, I would love to see some examples when you get a chance.
miami91 Posted October 18, 2006 Share #10 Posted October 18, 2006 Philip, Yes, I've been meaning to post some. I'm actually without a D-Lux at the moment --- sold my D-Lux 2 on eBay in anticipation of the D-Lux 3, which I should take delivery of tomorrow. Perhaps over the weekend I'll drag the adapter out and give it a go. I don't have a whole lot of existing images to show because, as I said, the process is a bit tedious, so in the short time I had my D-Lux 2, Televid, and adapter, I didn't make too many images. Like lots of things in photography, there's also a bit of a learning curve. For example, I discovered (the hard way) that using the self-timer is critical --- with a super-telephoto such as it is, even the gentlest release of the shutter can cause a blurry image.
