Wobbly 24mm Elmarit

Hi,

My 18-month-old 24mm Elmarit has developed a 'wobble' where the front part of the lens from the focus ring on is moving. I've not knocked it and can't understand how the fault has occurred. Has anyone else experienced the same?

I had a similar experience with my 28 'Cron, though it was much older it had not been knocked or dropped. A quick trip to Leica NJ fixed it right up.

I have had the same experience with a 21mm Elmarit and a 28mm Summicron. The front half of the lens is threaded on the main barrel (focusing unit) and there is some loctite-like goo in the thread. With some designs, the thread is too short, and repeated torque on a lens shade can in time loosen it. I think Leica should give some attention to this risk in the future.

With the 28 Summicron, if you take a small screwdriver and tighten ever so slightly the screws just forward of the aperture ring, the problem should be eliminated.

Interesting. I never had a problem with the 28 'Cron until I got an M8, which meant I was occasionally switching from a UV filter to a UV/IR filter which meant more torque on the front of the lens.
