Reverse curl to Leica M film once exposed?

Hi,

 

Getting to grips with my my new MP and I reqound a film and then immediately opened the casette to load onto a spiral. The film had no idea which way it wanted to curl, making it hard to handle and identify the emulsion side (OK in hindsight I should have taken more time and just checked fo shiny vs matt side.

 

Is this reverse curl normal and due to the way the M series take up film on the take up spool. If I leave the film in the rewound casett for a while will it then return to a one way curl (mine was curling both ways at different points on the same film!)

 

Newbie when it comes to Leica so never sen this before!

The reverse curl is normal when you take your film out of your M. The film wil return to 'normal' in a few hours time. Reverse curl is no problem except that a B&W film may jam while being spooled in into a reel. So if you develop film, just wait a few hours and it won't be a problem.

Rather than wait a few hours, just roll the leading edge to be loaded into the tank between your thumb and fingers to induce the "correct curl" for loading. The curl following the leading edge does not matter, only the leading edge has to find its way round the spiral.
