SteveYork Posted February 27, 2009 Share #1 Â Posted February 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) What extender would work with the current 80-200/4? Is there anything other than the current APO models that would work? Â Those current models would cost more then the lens and would force me to sell my son into slavery (if I had any children). Now, you parents, don't be getting any ideas. Â I'm really thinking of a 1.4x, because I don't think I could afford the loss of two stops of speed. But I've heard some chatter about some of the extenders not working on certain lenses, ect. Â Thanks in advance.
Advertisement Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Hi SteveYork, Take a look here R Extenders Question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted February 27, 2009 Share #2 Â Posted February 27, 2009 Steve - Â I've been using an APO 2X extender with my 80-200 since 2000 and am exceptionally pleased with the results. Perhaps you can get a used one at a good rate since so many people and dealers seem to be dumping their R systems.
TimF Posted February 28, 2009 Share #3 Â Posted February 28, 2009 The x2 extender seems to be relatively common on the used market (mostly in 3-cam version, but even the APO isn't rare) unlike the x1.4 one. Â In any event, according to Leica's site, the x2 appears to be the sole compatible extender with the 80-200mm/
