Film magazines for bulk loading, m6

Hi,

I used to bulk load exclusively when using nikons.

Back then the quality of film magazines was pretty dismal.

Using an M6, I wish to start loading my own film once more.

Does anyone know which type of film magazines are best, and

where to acquire them?

Thanks,

richard

Hello Richard,

B&H sells quite a few different reloadable cassettes in plastic, metal, DX coded or not coded. I don't like the plastic cassettes which require a quarter turn to lock the cap. I have had the caps come loose. I like the metal cassettes which are like the old kodak snap cap design before they started crimping on the caps. They don't come loose or leak light. Try some of the B&H cassettes. You can buy them as few as 5 in a pack at $.55 to $.75 for each cassette.

I tried the plastic ones from B&H. They quit feeding atter 12 exposures in screw mounts, M and R cameras. Threw them all away.

Kalts work ok, the common metal ones.

IXMOO brass reloadables are the Cadillac solution. Get an real ABLON template to trim the interior point, and a bench winder. Brass cassettes for the M are difficult to find. It took me 3 months to locate 20 of them. Then I went to a Chicago flea market and there were 20 on a table. I sent e-mails to all the dealers to advertise in the Leica Hostorical Society Catalog. Jim Lager had 10. Reid had a few, Sherry Krauter had 4. Tamarkin had a few. It was a tough fight for every one.. You just have to be lucky.

Screw mount ones are easily found, but will not work in an M Camera.

If you use them in a 111c, the film does not slip around making an image on the sprocket holes. M cassettes are shorter by 2 mm and work perfectly in a screw camera.. The reverse will NOT work.
