Collapsable Leica lens suggestions Please

I am looking to possibly replace my latest model Summicron 50 mm with a collapsable 50 mm. Will I loose out on image quality by doing this? The advantage, to me is that I would be able to put my camera in my coat pocket but if this means a loss in image rendition and quality I will live with hanging the camera around my neck. After all, the reason we buy Leica in the first place is the quality of the results.

Your recommendations and model choices appreciated

Not worse, just different.

Try and find a nice Elmar like this one:

These retail at £599 new, but they have recently stopped making them, so will be getting harder to find.

I recently shot a whole wedding on one lens... it was the chrome one.

Please, for the future: Do not post what´s available and in stock in shops (kind of advertising). Thank you!

OF course every generation of Summicrons improves on the previous in terms of sharpness and contrast. Why do you think optical designers would stand for otherwise?

But one should also acknowledge that contrast and sharpness are not everything in a photograph. There are other qualities like bokeh and rendition which differentiate lenses.

Further, to me non-optical qualities are equally imporant-- weight, size, filter diameter, build quality. So I prefer to carry my 90TE rather than my 90AA when travelling. Because the weight on my shoulders is so much less!

Lastly, one should note that handheld shooting is a great leveller. Without using a tripod, it's hard to get the full improvement in performance from a technically better lens.

Having read your comments, which are much appreciated and also comments from other sources I think I am, maybe going to stay with the 50 mm Summicron for the time being. It was only with having a 35 mm Summicron asph as well, the idea of a collapsable lens instead of the 50 mm seemed worthwhile but possibly, in the long term I might sell my 50 mm lens and just stay with the 35 mm which seems to cover most of my picture taking requirements. Interestingly, this is nearly the first camera I have bought with more than one lens and there is alot to be said for the one lens approach as it removes the decision as to which lens to use when one only has one
