fernando_b Posted November 10, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 10, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Last week I received back from Solms my R6 cleaned. It is like new: very accurate and reliable work. They have added an additional 1 year warranty. Thanks very much to Leica Customer service. Fernando. Welcome, dear visitor! mercury Posted January 12, 2009 Share #2 Posted January 12, 2009 I am considering to buy a used R6 and getting it through the Leica service. May I ask what they charged you to get your camera cleaned and adjusted? That would help me to estimate the overall costs for the R6 purchase. fernando_b Posted January 13, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted January 13, 2009 Consider that my R6 production date was 1988. I required CLA since I supposed the shutter was overexposing about 1/3 of EV. When they checked it, they answered that the actual exposure speeds were nearly perfect so they did only a complete cleaning (the camera deserved it) and lubricating, for 156 Euros, including VAT and transport back to me. It is a very reliable camera. Fernando.
andybarton Posted January 13, 2009 Share #4 Posted January 13, 2009 That's good The Year's Warranty must be a new thing. I have never been offered one by Solms before.

Mongo Park Posted January 14, 2009 Share #6 Posted January 14, 2009 Fernando, am thinking of having my R7 CLA'd. How long did it take to have your camera done? Thanks. M
fernando_b Posted January 14, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted January 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Please note that I didn't require express service (3 days work) that is available paying some more Euros. It took about one month including - a week for shipment to Solms - some days for sending the authorisation form after having the final cost estimate - another week of return trip to Milano. The 156 Euros included the cost of the shipment back. I found the cost fully acceptable. Fernando.
Ivar B Posted January 14, 2009 Share #8 Posted January 14, 2009 If anyone from outside the EU sends goods to Leica for repair, they need to take care. Leica now ships with DHL express and declare the full value of the camera or lens when the items are returned, and not the value of the repair for tax purposes. I have had to pay 25 % VAT on my M8 and a 2/28 twice!! Leica blames DHL and DHL blames Leica and I am stuck in the middle with hundreds of euros out of the window. I have now arranged for Leica to return my gear with DHL Standard, in which case they are able to return the items with a repair invoice only. andybarton Posted January 15, 2009 Share #10 Posted January 15, 2009 This week, Solms quoted me 3 weeks "in the workshop" for my M7 to have its DX reader replaced under warranty. Realistically, that's at least 5 weeks, door to door, UK -> Germany -> UK.
