Rik Posted September 26, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 26, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, i'm interested in trying some B&W infrared film with my M6. Can someone suggest a filter that will fit a 35 mm Summilux? The serial nr of the lens is 2870XXX. I know it uses a series VII Uv filter, but unsure as to what infrared filter i would need? thanks kind regards Rik

xray Posted September 26, 2006 Share #2 Posted September 26, 2006 Depends on the IR film you use. Each has it's own spectral sensativity and requires different filters. If you use Kodak I like the 87C for the most dramatic effect. I have no experience with other films and can not say what to use. The Kodak must be loaded and unloaded from the camera in TOTAL darkness. The film must be kept in a totally light tight container untill processes. The film cassette is not IR tight and will severely fog the film if exposed to light. Other films are not that way and can be handled under dim light for loading the camera. NickR Posted September 27, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 27, 2006 I'm not sure how readily available series V7 infrared filters are but you can buy a gel filter and cut it to fit a series 7 holder. I recently did something similar using a kodak 87 gel and a 46mm uv filter. I removed the uv filter glass from its holder inserted the gel and then screwed down the uv glass to hold the gel in place. It worked fine.
Confusion Circle Posted September 28, 2006 Share #5 Posted September 28, 2006 A red 25A filter is good enough if you are using Kodak HIE. Those are readily available in series VII size.
henryp Posted September 28, 2006 Share #6 Posted September 28, 2006 B+W's 65072088 = B+W Series 7 091 Dark Red (029) Glass Filter B+W's BW099S7 = Series 7 099 Infrared Glass Filter
tobey bilek Posted October 2, 2006 Share #7 Posted October 2, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Second the gel idea. I have cut several and mounted to the back side of UV filters. Eventually I was able to find proper IR filters. I you use Kodak film, I suggest you set the meter to EI 800 and meter right thru the filter to a middle tone subject, not a tree that you want to get white leaves. This will work with M and R cameras.
