mickmindless Posted April 1, 2008 Share #1 Posted April 1, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Friends, I already posted this question in the German section - but nobody could help me so far. The two red arrows in my M6 shine, but only the left one reacts to time/apertures. The right one shines all the time, so something is wrong here. Do you have experienced something similar? Thanks in advance for your help Michael
Advertisement Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Hi mickmindless, Take a look here Problems with M6 meter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted April 1, 2008 Share #2 Posted April 1, 2008 Have you tried a fresh battery? Are all the contacts clean?
rob_x2004 Posted April 1, 2008 Share #3 Posted April 1, 2008 Look forward to the responses. No amount of new batteries nor cleaning helped in the R6.2. I think I got both arrows and the dot and the whole lot faded in a matter of minutes to zip. I figured the light meter cicuitry was cactus and it was a repair job. mickmindless Posted April 1, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted April 1, 2008 Thanks for your quick responses. Sorry to not having mentioned that. The batteries are of course brand new from the store...
fotografr Posted April 1, 2008 Share #5 Posted April 1, 2008 Try rotating the ISO wheel on the back of the film door back and forth a couple of times, then reset to the proper number.
steed Posted April 1, 2008 Share #6 Posted April 1, 2008 this may be a stupid question, but does this occur both with and without a coded film cartridge in the camera?
john_newell Posted April 1, 2008 Share #7 Posted April 1, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Possible: dirty contacts for shutter speed dial or ASA/ISO dial. If early-ish production, more likely: failing circuitboard, requiring replacement. With the meter turned on, if you place a lens cap over the lens, do the LEDs blink or go dark? If they go dark, likely a failing circuitboard.

If they go dark, likely a failing circuitboard. That would depend on the version of meter, some of the older ones don't blink when the lens cap is one or extreme under/over exposure. john_newell Posted April 2, 2008 Share #9 Posted April 2, 2008 That would depend on the version of meter, some of the older ones don't blink when the lens cap is one or extreme under/over exposure. Peter What I was trying to get at, and didn't state clearly as clearly as I should have, is that the early meters go dark on underexposure. The later meters blink on underexposure. The overwhelming majority of reports of dead meters involve the earlier meters. Therefore, if the OP's M6 has LEDs that go dark on underexposure, it is an earlier meter and probably therefore the circuitboard needs to be replaced. In the end, of course, what's required is diagnosis by a qualified tech who disassembles and tests the camera.
leitz_not_leica Posted April 3, 2008 Share #10 Posted April 3, 2008 I have the 920th M6 made, 1658xxx. If the meter ever craps out I would just use it meterless.
