click Posted March 27, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, What sizes do Leitz easels come in? I'd be interested in a 16x12 version? Was this size made? I've seen 12x10 and 8x10 versions. Thank you, Click
Advertisement Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Hi click, Take a look here Leitz Leica Easel. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ho_co Posted March 27, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 27, 2011 IIRC, I've seen 8 x 10 and 11 x 14 sizes. I don't think any were larger.
click Posted March 27, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted March 27, 2011 Ollinger's Guide to Photographic Enlargers: Leitz Enlargers I just found this link where the author talks about a 12x16 easel and it seems logical since this is a common european paper size. Yes, there was a rare Valoy intended for extreme enlargements. My 16x20 easel just fits properly. It an an extra long column, and a special cooling bonnet in the light housing to allow big watt bulbs. I have one. Never seen another.

Click The only one I have seen is 8x10, which I have. I like the locking feature. I also have a Saunders 11x14 border-less easel that is exactly the same thickness as the Leitz unit - which makes it usable with my autofocus Focomat Ic without further adjustments. The also make/made a 16x20 border-less unit
ho_co Posted March 28, 2011 Share #6 Posted March 28, 2011 The larger easel I saw may indeed have been 12 x 16. In the US, the more common paper size is 11 x 14, so I may simply not have noticed the difference. As you know, the Focomat Ic was delivered with a pin which fit into either of two different sets of holes in the upright. The lower set was for enlarging on the baseboard; the higher set was for use with the smaller Leitz easel. The larger of the two easels was thicker, and was delivered with a spacing ring to be placed atop the pin when it was in the upper set of holes, to adjust the enlarger height to accommodate the easel. I can't understand why the link you offer shows that the Ic was focused by helicoid. Yes, there was a helicoid for initial adjustment of the lens, but the autofocus mechanism was via cam, which extended the bellows. Same with the Focomat V-35, where the link says the focusing type is unknown. Again, there's an adjustable helicoid to tune the lens and enlarger, but as an autofocus enlarger, its focus was cam-driven. No bellows in this case, but a collapsing tube mechanism. The larger easel was really more suitable for use with the Focomat IIc, simply because of the size of the Ic's baseboard.
