rafael_macia Posted February 16, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 16, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Are there different R4-7 plain ground glass focusing screens? I was told that earlier #14304 screens were darker than later #14304 screens (identified as a later screen by an "R" on the tab.) Is this true? Also does anyone have experience with the "Brightscreen" plain matt. It is expensive. Is it worth it? thanking all in advance .... rsolomon Posted February 17, 2007 Share #3 Posted February 17, 2007 i think i just saw a plain ground glass and a plain ground glass with cross marks on ebay - at a good price too.
rafael_macia Posted February 17, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted February 17, 2007 i think i just saw a plain ground glass and a plain ground glass with cross marks on ebay - at a good price too. I saw a pair of screens too. But they were the plain with lines, and the conventional split image, so I passed the up.(they were a good price). I think they are gone now. I have one screen a 14304 on the line at a dealer now for $45. And Sherry is looking in her stock for one over this weekend. So I hope for the best. thanks again! and btw I am moving away from the brightscreen idea because the metering area circle that would be in the Leica screen would be gone. gvaliquette Posted February 22, 2007 Share #5 Posted February 22, 2007 Rafael I think Guy and Pascal use Brightscreen Guy, Pascal, is this correct? And could you please comment on the Brightscreen, if you do use it. Thanks. Guy
garyp Posted February 23, 2007 Share #6 Posted February 23, 2007 Rafael The earlier screens were about a stop darker, and that is correct about the 'R' on newer screens. Older ones had an 'R4' as an identifier. I believe from the R5 on up the 'R' screens were supplied.
rafael_macia Posted February 24, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted February 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, I found a clear screen. It was super difficult to find, and I did not have the chance to have the sales person eyeball the screen ...... I was looking for the indicator to tell me if it it was the brighter one. Forget that .... nobody has clear screens. I will live with whatever arrives until I find something better. Hey .... it may be the brighter screen ....
