Advertisement Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Hi Humood, Take a look here What is your expirence with the Summarit lenses?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Per P. Posted November 2, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 2, 2010 I bought the 75mm Summarit 2nd hand. I like it a lot and would happily recommend it to anyone who does not specifically need f/2 due to low light.
chuckw Posted November 2, 2010 Share #3 Posted November 2, 2010 I have owned the 35 Summarit and the 75 Summarit and have found them both to be excellent lenses. I can't comment on the 50 and the 90 but, in general, I think that the Summarits are under appreciated perhaps because of their "budget" pricing. ezc203 Posted November 2, 2010 Share #4 Posted November 2, 2010 I currently use the 50mm and it is just lovely. Aside from the speed, there are absolutely no complaints. Stellar at every aperture, including wide-open.
bill Posted November 2, 2010 Share #5 Posted November 2, 2010 Whereas I currently use the search facility and it is just lovely. Aside from the fact that it gets too little use, there are absolutely no complaints. Stellar at every query, including experience with the Summarit lenses. Nicoleica Posted November 2, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 2, 2010 I think that the Summarit 35 is one of the nicest lenses I have ever owned. A quite beautiful lens in all aspects. I've used the Summarit 50 too, and that is also a lovely little lens. Absolutely no complaints, and nothing but praise for these little gems.

wattsy Posted November 2, 2010 Share #8 Posted November 2, 2010 Have the 50. It's fine and I use it in preference to Summilux ASPH for most purposes.
Jaybob Posted November 2, 2010 Share #9 Posted November 2, 2010 From what I've read, I'd buy a 28 if they made one.
andybarton Posted November 2, 2010 Share #10 Posted November 2, 2010 I must be the only person on the planet who owns a 90mm. And there's nothing at all wrong with it.
cesare Posted November 2, 2010 Share #11 Posted November 2, 2010 I must be the only person on the planet who owns a 90mm. And there's nothing at all wrong with it. Maybe I'm the second person in the world owning a summarit 90; it is a nice lens an like it very much. When I decided to add a 35 to my stable of lenses went direcly fo a Summarit andthe satisfaction doubled. Regards. LeicaBraz Posted November 2, 2010 Share #12 Posted November 2, 2010 Use a 50mm and a 75mm - very, very good both esp the 50mm.
adan Posted November 2, 2010 Share #13 Posted November 2, 2010 The Summarits are quite good. Only knock I'd give them is the close-focus limit of the 75 is too far (compared to the other Leica 75s). The 90 is a throwback to the pre-APO Summicron (minus 1/2 a stop), which is a nice thing. For me the bottom line was that I could get used Summicron 35s, 50s, and 90s for less than the new (and even sometimes used) prices of the Summarits, so I figured "Why pay more for a slower lens?" jtorrents Posted November 2, 2010 Share #14 Posted November 2, 2010 Another thumbs up for the 90. Bought it second hand, and it's a pleasure to use.
wda Posted November 2, 2010 Share #15 Posted November 2, 2010 I must be the only person on the planet who owns a 90mm. And there's nothing at all wrong with it. Not quite true Andy. Thorsten Overgaard has an interesting report on his website with good examples from his real world commissions. For myself, I am highly enthusiastic about my 75mm Summarit. The whole range represents an excellent alternative to non-Leica lenses, designed and built in classic Leica style. I suspect those who frown on them hanker for their faster and vastly more expensive siblings. Even at f/2.5 the lenses a good and reliable once you master focusing accuracy. At typical working apertures the results are indistinguishable from their LuxCron rivals.

No, I have the other one: leica.overgaard.dk - Thorsten Overgaard's Leica Pages - Leica 90mm Summarit-M f/2.5 tele lens and other Leitz and Leica 90mm lenses
jacarape Posted November 3, 2010 Share #17 Posted November 3, 2010 From what I've read, I'd buy a 28 if they made one. That niche is filled very nicely by the semi new Elmarit-M ASPH. But it's pretty hard to imagine any 1700 dollar lenses being "budget" lenses. They do have to compete with used Elmarit-Ms for sales at some FLs. I bought a used 90 E-M for 600 clams, my then new 28 E-M ASPH was 1299 when it arrived on the market and they now sell for that used. It may be that a brand seen as luxury really can't sell a "budget" line. I paid 2400 for a perfect 75/1,4. I'm not sure the 75/2,5 competes.
skinnfell Posted November 3, 2010 Share #18 Posted November 3, 2010 I have not used them extensively, but handled them a lot back when I used to be a Leica dealer. My impression is that they are slightly less "built like a tank" like the main line of lenses. However, still head and shoulders above can/nik/etc. They are light, but that means very snappy and easy to focus. I cant tell if they will handle really long-term usage less well than regulars though, but I assume that the camera is the weak spot from now on. (M8/9) I would not hesitate to buy one if I needed the focal lenght and could live with the aperture. They are really super small and light, and that can be a BIG bonus if you haul your camera around a lot, for example for travel or street shooting. edmond_terakopian Posted November 3, 2010 Share #19 Posted November 3, 2010 I had a 75mm Summarit which was an absolute joy to use and made very nice images. Here's a quick shot I did on the first day of getting it: Antje-280710-LeicaM9_1sts-142 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Alas, a short time after getting it, it, along with some other lenses were broken by a negligent security guard who let my bag fall of an X-Ray machine whilst I was on the other end still loading stuff onto it! The short time I had with the lens was great and I can't recommend it highly enough. I'm about to replace it and will probably go for a 90mm Summarit this time round.
