DrM Posted January 15, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear all, I created an account for this forum some time ago. Old messages from the old forum seem to be gone. To get a grip again on the leica forum I have a question. The new M8 grip seems to be all I ever wanted on my M6, but it doesn't fit of course.. I like the fusion of the grip and the plate, any non-Leica suggestions? Best, DrM

stunsworth Posted January 15, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 15, 2007 Marc, for the M6 try a Rapidgrip - Rapidwinder & Rapidgrip - fit it to the bottom of your M6 and never take it off :-). I bought it and a Rapidwinder for my M6, both are very well made. There's space in the grip to store batteries.
Rolo Posted January 15, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 15, 2007 Interesting Steve. Sorry to be a pain. Can you bring both with you when we next meet ? Rolo
stunsworth Posted January 15, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 15, 2007 Not a problem, it might be an idea to remind me just before the event :-) Do you want me to bring the Rapidwinder as well as the grip? It's an M6 you have isn't it?
Rolo Posted January 15, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 15, 2007 Not a problem, it might be an idea to remind me just before the event :-) Do you want me to bring the Rapidwinder as well as the grip? It's an M6 you have isn't it? I have an MP and an M3. It's the Rapidwinder in particular I'd like to see as I'm told they work so well for a spike sticking out of the bottom plate. Does it have a tripod mount on the plate ? The grip is secondary, but I wonder if it will help the closing of my right hand. I find when I'm walking that the 4th & 5th fingers are tightly clenched and the middle finger is curled. Leica arthritis, possibly ??
stunsworth Posted January 15, 2007 Share #6 Posted January 15, 2007 The Rapidwinder won't work on your M3 - MP will be ok. The M3 doesn't have the required slotted wheel in the bottom of the body. I'll bring the winder and grip along. Will you be going to the Chester meeting on the 28th of Feb? I've used the winder since I bought it in 2002. Being a left eyed shooter it means I don't have to move the camera from my eye when advancing the film. The winder has a tripod socket in the same place as the standard baseplate, but the grip uses this to lock into place, so if you use them both you'll lose the tripod socket. Rolo Posted January 15, 2007 Share #7 Posted January 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks Steve, I can't confirm to the Chester meet as I often have other commitments at weekends. Would like to be there for the craik though. Enjoyed the Manchester meet and shooting with all you Leica veterens. I'd be up for an occasional beer with y'all on a weekday evening. DrM Posted January 22, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted January 22, 2007 Dear all, Thank you for the input.. I'll try to get hold of some options mentioned above. Meanwhile I keep an eye open for the M8 grip in M6 format Cheers..
peter_n Posted January 23, 2007 Share #11 Posted January 23, 2007 I strongly second Mr. Unsworth's recommendation of the Rapidgrip. I bought mine to help with a Noctilux and a 90mm AA but I find myself using it more and more. As Steve says it houses replacement batteries and it's just really well designed and fabricated. think Posted January 23, 2007 Share #12 Posted January 23, 2007 I second the recommendation on the PhotoEquip grip. It covers the whole baseplate without adding a lot of mass. It also provides a centered tripod mount. The body can sit flat on a table or other surface and the grip feature itself prevents it from tipping forward. It's easy to work through when changing rolls; so much so that I don't even notice that they're attached anymore and the grip holds spare batteries as well. I tried a TA grip and though it felt nice in hand, I disliked the instability that it created by being "one-ended". YMMV I'm sure you'll enjoy whichever you choose. bill Posted January 26, 2007 Share #14 Posted January 26, 2007 I have a Rapidgrip on my M7. Combined with a SLING, it provides a really secure grip. I don't bother with a neck-strap with this setup. Regards, Bill
Simon Larbalestier Posted January 29, 2007 Share #15 Posted January 29, 2007 This is best grip I've used by far: http://www.photoequip.net/_images/mlsilltq_1000.jpg Accessories from PhotoEquip I certainly second this - the rubber surface on the edge of the grip makes it really easy to hold in hot sticky climates and provides a good way to store the spare batteries. Now considering getting another 3..............
