wilfredo Posted April 22, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 22, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can anyone recommend a good place for independent Leica lens CLA's? What's the average price?
Advertisement Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Hi wilfredo, Take a look here Lens CLA's. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wildlightphoto Posted April 22, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 22, 2010 From personal experience I can recommend Don Goldberg DAG Camera Parts and Sherry Krauter Sherry Krauter.com -- Home of the Golden Touch.*** Steven Choi Steve's Camera Service Center also has an excellent reputation, and for lens re-coating as well as normal CLA service, John van Stelten Welcome to Focal Point - Lens Repair, Lens Cleaning, Camera Repair is the man. Pricing will vary depending on the lens, best to contact each repair technician with the details. Pricing can vary from US$50 to over $300 from the same technician. peter_n Posted April 22, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 22, 2010 You're in CA - Steve Choi in Culver City. Excellent bloke.
wparsonsgisnet Posted April 22, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 22, 2010 Wilfredo, I've had one done at each of DAG and Krauter. You should expect to pay around $100. Regards,
wilfredo Posted April 23, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted April 23, 2010 Thanks for the tips. I may be buying a lens that may need a CLA.
wparsonsgisnet Posted April 23, 2010 Share #6 Posted April 23, 2010 Wilfredo, are you sure the lens will be of the quality you want post-CLA? What if you pay for the CLA and get DAG's or Sherry's (or ...) opinion before buying the lens. You're going to be out the CLA fee anyway, but you might not want the lens at the end. gwelland Posted April 23, 2010 Share #7 Posted April 23, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) An interesting proposition that's sounds like a good approach if you and the seller don't mind the lens going off for several weeks to get CLA'd. It might be practical if it took a few days but I doubt that any seller would do it otherwise. I must admit that I'd probably voluntarily send a lens off for CLA/test before selling these days. I've only had one situation where the lens had a problem I hadn't noticed (it had been adjusted but not well enough) and it was amicably resolved with the buyer and I sent it back to Leica for adjustment before selling later. Jamie Roberts Posted April 23, 2010 Share #8 Posted April 23, 2010 Funny--I unless I'm buying new, or nearly new, or the seller tells me they've just done a CLA, I always factor at least an inspection price into the price of a used Leica lens. tdtaylor Posted April 24, 2010 Share #9 Posted April 24, 2010 I have sent 4 lenses and a camera to Sherry, and I can say she is reasonable and typically a 7 to 10 day turnaround. I have been very pleased with her work. Can't beat that these days. Can't speak about turnaround for the others.
