Leica M7 with improved viewfinder

My M7 is 2854xxx and it did not have either the newer VF or the new DX reader.

Doing a quick search of Steve Gandy's CameraQuest site I could not find the serial # cutoff for the new finder & DX in the M7 but I did at one time. So so a more in-depth search and I think you'll find it. IIRC it was around the 286 or 287 mark for both the finder & DX upgrades.

But then I'm not sure if was on the cameraquest site I read this.

I found it. It was in the Buyers Guide section. It is 2885000 and above.

Ivar,

Also, a number of M7s with earlier serial numbers have been updated with either the revised rangefinder patch and/or the optical DX reader. So... the s/n may be one reliable indicator of the updates, but not exclusively so.

Well that's just it. M7 after the 2885xxx serial # already have both of these ugrades. M7 before that had to be sent in for the FREE DX reader upgrade but you had to pay for the VF upgrade at a cost, these days, of about $325+. As I never really noticed a bad flare in my M7 I didn't opt for the expense for the VF upgrade.

I suspect other users felt the same way. So if you want both of those upgrades the only way to be sure you get both is to buy a camera with a serial # after the upgrades were made standard.

The MP finder and optical DX reader were improvements made a number of years apart. My first M7 definitely had the 'flare-free' finder but I had no end of trouble with the DX contacts. I recall the optical DX reader being quietly introduced three years or more later. In fact, I've owned three M7s of various vintages - all with MP finder, none with an optical DX reader.

I see the MP does not have a ISO reader. So yes the DX reader, of any type, is just in the M7. Sorry for the misinformation.
