ryee3 Posted November 27, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is there information on how to use the macro adapter-R extension with the 60 macro-elmarit-R? I bought one used recently and there were no instructional catalogs. What are situations I might need the extension adapter? Will this adapter work on any other lenses? Thanks:)

Use the extension adapter when you want image magnification between half life-size and life size. Will this adapter work on any other lenses? It depends on which model the adapter is. The early 14198 was supposed to work only with the 60mm macro lens, but it could be used with a few other lenses as well, within limits. The 14256 and the last version with ROM contacts may be used with many other lenses. The magnification ratio with other lenses will vary depending on the lens focal length and focussed distance. leicamann Posted November 28, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 28, 2009 I use the 'adapter" for really small flowers.. you will need to make sure your F stop is not less than F5.6 to get reasonable DOF. The flowers I take are like "forget me nots" buttercup, violets, crocus etc.. At that magnification you will need to use a "remote release" and a good "macro tripod"..that is a tripod to which you can pull the center poll out and put it upside down or sideways ..make sure you are 90 deg.. or square to your subject..because the focal area is very tiny. The world of Macro is a world onto itself... its up to your imagination and inventiveness. Remember digital will give you a very different look and feel to film...again personal choice If your lucky enough to have insects, like dragonflies , bees, beetles, ants.. I know one of my fellow students at Art school was photographing rust and paint.. using Kodachrome.. he had stunning images. Post some photos when you work it out.... Have fun Cheers, JRM
EJohnE Posted November 28, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 28, 2009 I presume that you know to set both lens and macro-adaptor @ f22 before trying to mate them?
wildlightphoto Posted November 28, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 28, 2009 I presume that you know to set both lens and macro-adaptor @ f22 before trying to mate them? Only applies if it's the 14198 adapter, and you should only have to set the lens to f/22.
EJohnE Posted November 29, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 29, 2009 Whoops! Thanks for the correction. It is over 25 years since I had both lens and adaptor, so plead decaying brain cells to blame. I really admire your skill with those long lenses and the Leicaflex SL. John.
