amateur Posted November 22, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 22, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a Leica llla andI am not able to cock the shutter. I have not installed any film nor have I done anything to alter anything on the camera. On this camera, the advance knob turns freely and does not ever stop. I inspected the interior and the gear workings seem to be rotating as they should. What am I doing wrong? On most other cameras no film is necessary. The shutter can be set by advancing the wind up knob. I have the rewind in the 'A' position. I cannot find the way to check the shutter:rolleyes:
Advertisement Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Hi amateur, Take a look here Leica llla cocking the shutter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted November 22, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 22, 2006 When you say you have the rewind in the A position does this mean it's pushed in towards the shutter button? You shouldn't be able to see the A. If so also try turning the shutter speed dial as this will cock the shutter directly (without the film advance). If neither of these work then possibly something has become disengaged and it will need a service/repair.
doubice Posted November 23, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 23, 2006 Yes, I agree with James. The rewind lever should be facing towards the wind knob, NOT toward the front of the camera. What you are describing is typical when the rewind lever is engaged. Cocking the shutter by turning the shutter dial is a little tricky - you have to turn it continuously, until it clicks into place. Do not let go of it before the cocking motion is complete. That is also the way to obtain intentional double exposures on a screw mount Leica, should you wish to do so. Good luck, Jan
