I used to have the very same problem with the D-Lux (109). After some tests it turned out that the camera itself clearly had caused the problem. Because after the release of the D-Lux7 I decided NOT to upgrade to the latter (no attractive new feature for me) from the 109 and consequently contacted Leica in Wetzlar to get an estimate of costs: 270 € 😢 The 109 is now repaired and serves me well. If the flash is attatched and switched to ON (with the switch on the flash body) all flash options are available. But there are some camera recording modes - see p. 178 - where the flash will be deactivated. Andreas

I suspect that you have chosen a picture quality including RAW recording (p. 109/110 of the manual). Many other features - like iZoom - are also not available with RAW. Andreas

That's my usage as well. Glad you like it. BTW, I'm using Fn2 [WIFI] for this application. Never use WIFI because it transfers only JPGs and it's kind of cumbersome. Andreas

Well Graeme, iZoom does indeed work only if no quality setting with RAW is selected. To enable iZoom only JPG-settings are allowed. AFIK, this applies to all cameras. I've arranged a simple workaround: one of the programmable function buttons can be used for the "Quality" selection (RAW, RAW+JPG, JPG). With the JPG function selected the iZoom now is set to permanently "ON". If you now select a RAW or RAW+JPG function iZoom will be disabled but enabled automatically if a JPG-only function is selected. Thus this function button works like a toggle switch for enabling/disabling iZoom. Because I'm using iZoom rather seldom I can accept the fact that this can only be done without RAW. Although the D-Lux JPG-output is quite acceptable it is rather seldom that some tweaking would not result in even better images. But if you start processing the JPGs it's much more rewarding to process generally from the RAWs. Thus the RAWs are the way to go and the restriction with the iZoom on JPGs is only minute. Andreas

I don't consider it a deal breaker. You can always crop from the RAW in order to simulate the iZoom, because the iZoom is nothing else than a croped image which is upscaled to full pixel count.The only advantage of iZoom is the ability to choose the crop already while taking the image. And let's face it: even 150mm focal length is by no means sufficient to get really close. This would at least require about 300mm or - better - 500mm. Andreas

Did you deactivate RAW, either solo or combined with JPG?. See last line of the notes on p173. Andreas

Hi yst, for explanation see the again manual, p. 43. Just notice that this setting will apply only to the LCD screen. The viewfinder always uses 60fps. I'm using the default setting with 30fps but since I use the display only for menu settings - for taking pictures only the EVF is used - the "Live View Mode" has no priority for me. Hello yst, the D-Lux also has this facility: by pressing the DISP button several times you can advance through the various display modes. See p. 62 of the manual. I'd strongly recommend downloading the D-Lux manual in order to get familiar with the many possible features of this highly versatile camera. Hello yst, fortunately both are independent from each other. 1. With DISP-button (rear side, bottom right) you can choose "display layout" (p. 62 of the manual). One of the choices is "without information". 2. With "MENU---Custom---Guide Line" (p. 65 of the manual) you have the desired choice. Hope it helps Andreas

Der Wunsch nach einer Verbesserung des Bestehenden haben wir wohl alle. Hier geht es aber nicht um eine Wechselobjektivkamera, sondern um die D-Lux 109. Und deren Kombination von Lichtstärke, Brennweitenbereich, Sensorgröße, Sucher, und Bedienelementen ist - wenn überhaupt - nur mit "Kompaktkameras" erreichbar. Und da braucht die D-Lux keinen Vergleich zu scheuen. Und bei der gelegentlich bemängelten Qualität des Zoom-Objektivs wird übersehen, dass bessere Objektive mit vergleichbaren Daten (Lichtstärke, Brennweitenbereich) nur mit wesentlich größeren Abmessungen und entsprechendem Preis gebaut werden können. Hier werden also die berühmten Äpfel mit Birnen verglichen. Im Übrigen ist dieses Objektiv nicht annähernd so mittelmäßig, wie manchmal behauptet wird. Ich bin seit mehr als zwei Jahren damit jedenfalls sehr zufrieden, und wenn ich Deine hier immer wieder geposteten Bilder betrachte, die in ihrer Aussagekraft wirklich überzeugen, weiß ich nicht, was noch fehlt. Die D-Lux ist eine sehr gute "immer_dabei_Kamera", die ansehnliche Ergebnisse liefert, insbesondere bei RAWs. Andreas

Der Vergleich ist etwas schwierig, da das JPG dunkler ist. Der stärkere Grüneindruck kann daher auch täuschen. Im JPG sehe, genau wie bei meinen JPGs, aber eine geringere Variation in den Grüntönen. Wenn Du die niedrigen Pflanzen direkt an der Umrandung des Rasens vergleichst, sind sie im RAW erkennbar unterschiedlicher. Der Rasen selbst sieht im RAW auch natürlicher aus. Und natürlich ist der Himmel im RAW wesentlich besser. Aber das war ja nicht das Thema, nur sollte es denjenigen zu denken geben, die beim JPG bleiben wollen. Erst mit RAW kann diese kleine Kamera ihr Potential entfalten. Grüße Andreas

Vielen Dank für Deine Kommentare. Deine Bemerkung "es hat ja eh niemand das Original vor der Aufnahme gesehen" trifft allerdings auf mich nicht zu. Ich habe die Aufnahme aus meinem Fenster heraus gemacht, und sie unmittelbar darauf auf dem Bildschirm (EIZO 2450) angesehen. Das JPG ist tatsächlich leicht grünlastig, obwohl die Kameraeinstellung mit Bildstil "Standard" realtiv neutral ist. Das aus RAW entwickelte Bild (Kameraprofil Huelight Low) ist sehr viel wirklichkeitsgetreuer. Die Grünlastigkeit der 109er JPGs ist mir übrigens von Anfang an aufgefallen. Ich habe dann lange versucht, mit Hilfe des Weißabgleichs eine andere/bessere Einstellung zu finden, leider ohne Erfolg. Was bei diesem Bild nicht auffällt, ist nämlich ein leichter Magentastich bei den JPGs. Da Magenta und Grün einander gegenüber liegen, ist da mit dem Farbwähler nichts zu machen, denn eine Verringerung des Grüns führt zwangsläufig zur Verstärkung des Magenta, und umgekehrt. Erst mit der RAW-Entwicklung war das in den Griff zu bekommen. Deine Aussage "Unsere Augen sehen dies anders als eine auf neutral getrimmte Kamera" ist völlig realistisch. Bei mir ist es sogar so, dass meine beiden Augen eine leicht unterschiedliche Farbwahrnehmung haben: links "wärmer", rechts "kühler". Andreas

Hallo Horst, auf die ausgefressenen Lichter beim ooc-Jpg habe ich nicht geachtet, da ich die JPGs nur als "Inhaltsangabe" betrachte, da die RAWs in PSE13 nur als Symbole dargestellt werden. Ich habe beide noch einmal entwickelt, das JPG in ACR mit leicht angepasster Belichtung 0,35, Lichtern -40 und Tiefen +60. Das RAW hat die gleichen Parameter. Zuerst wieder das JPG: Natürlich ist die Farbdarstellung Geschmackssache. Mit "grünlastig" meine ich die Farbdarstellung in der rechten Mitte, d.h. die Fichte, rechts davon unter/vor den beiden Häusern die Büsche und darunter die Hecken. Ich finde im RAW die Differenzierung der Grüntöne deutlich besser. Im JPG sind die Grüntöne weniger differenziert. Von der Farbgebung wirkt das JPG dadurch etwas blasser. Aber das heißt natürlich in keinster Weise, dass die 109 mäßige JPGs liefert. Die RAWs sind nur eben besser. Andreas
