albertknappmd Posted November 24, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 24, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Since Leica will be giving away IR filters, I would suggest the following: 1. What about the B+W combined UV and IR filter? The UV is key for people using color film and would obviate the use of TWO filters. 2. Waht about the use of MRC from B+W to reduce filter flaring and loss of light secondary to reflection.
Advertisement Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Hi albertknappmd, Take a look here IR FILTER: a few thoughts . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
grober Posted November 24, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 24, 2006 Dr. Knapp: Thanks for asking the question. I had previously made the wide assumption that the B+W 486 IR filter also quenched UV. No? If not, can't we say that the existing manufacturer's coating on modern lenses takes care of most UV problems? Whatever: I will NOT be screwing on TWO filters to any M8 glass. One filter is enough hassle already. -g
robsteve Posted November 24, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 24, 2006 Albert: The B+W 486 is a VU-IR-CUT filter. It already filters out both the UV and IR. The 486 is also MRC coated.
