Slow Service At Leica US Repair in New Jersey

I had really fast service on an M8 shutter upgrade this summer, but

although it was promised in 3-4 weeks I've been waiting and waiting on

a 28mm Summicron I shipped to them on 8/25 for 6 bit coding; they

received it on 8/28.

 

Today they called and said due to two recent retirements they couldn't

do it and would have to send it to Germany, which would entail another

4 weeks at the least.

 

Since I'm leaving in two weeks on a trip where I will need it they are

instead shipping it back to me, untouched. (They did offer to try to

find me a loaner but I didn't see the need to go that route and be

responsible for their lens if something untoward should happen to it.)

 

I guess it is hard to replace these folks.

I called Leica NJ to ask a simple question, and got voice mail on main number. I left a message, and I am still waiting for a response 5 days later.

 

I would try again. My sense is that they mean well but are a bit overwhelmed at present.
