Epson announce new 3880 printer

Recommended Posts

My graduate school photo class was enamored with the black and white photos I printed on my Epson R1900. I would say that the R1900 prints better black and white photos on glossy paper than it does color!

But, would be interested in feedback from users of prior and new versions.

I should have clarified...3800 versus 3880. I own the former and have been very happy with bw and color prints. Of course, the whole chain from calibration to profiles to papers to inks, etc. is critical.

Jeff, i currently own the 3800 and can say this is an excellent printer, not sure how much difference the 3880 will be compared to the 3800. I am in need of another printer and would also like to hear from anyone with experience on the 3880.

Thanks. As I added in post above yours, I also own the 3800. No complaints...just curious about the new version in real use comparison.

Agreed. What gets me mad, however, is Epson's pricing. In the US they sell the printer for a recommended retail price of USD 1,295, whereas in Europe the recommended retail price is Euro 1,665. Agreed, the European price contains about 20% VAT, which means that the net price is about Euro 1,380. However, even net of VAT you pay in Europe more Euros than you pay dollars in the US, and that at a time where you pay almost 1.50 dollars for 1 Euro. Put differently in Europe you pay a net price of about USD 2070 dollars or USD 700 more than what you pay in the US. This is a stunning 53% increase over the US price!

Have you compared European pricing versus shipping from US? I don't know about impact of exchange rates, import fees, etc, but places like B&H ship internationally...International Orders | B&H Photo Video
