scalleia Posted October 8, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I am planing on a M9 and like the Luigi cases. Anyway I was thinking of a full case but my question concerns the back flap that gives access to the LCD. Most of the user pics and comments I have seen/read seem to suggest that they have gone with the attached back flap and NOT the completely removable flap. I was thinking that the removable flap would be best as it could get a bit annoying with the flap hanging down all the time, well at least until I get skilled enough to not have to rely on the histogram too often. I was wondering why most users seem to prefer to attached flap over the removal stud flap ? Any takers ?? Thanks.

leffe Posted October 8, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 8, 2009 Hi, I am using Luigi's half case since two years. Very happily! I have the one with removable flap. I love it for the exact reason you are mentioning. When in action and visibility of the screen and buttons is necessary, I just put it my pocket. Hope this helps. Marty Posted October 8, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 8, 2009 Probably a very personal thing. No flap at all for me.
Mauribix Posted October 8, 2009 Share #4 Posted October 8, 2009 Yep, that's personal... I've got the flap instead, and I'm fine. Matter of fact when I don't want the flap, I completely remove the case. Naked at at all!
rebelfocus Posted October 8, 2009 Share #5 Posted October 8, 2009 I have the case with the hanging flap and really like the design. The leather is quite soft and the flap is easy to open just to check the screen quickly. If I am using the screen it a lot then I just leave the flap down while I am holding the camera (surprisingly it does not get in the way due to the softness of the leather). I also find having a cover over the screen by default discourages unnecessary chimping. With the cheap plastic screen they put on the M9 compared to the sapphire glass on the M8.2 I would be especially careful about keeping the screen protected while walking around and the hanging flap might be better. I would also recommend the Luigi built-in grip if you like having extra support. It's nicely done. Tony http://www.tonyobrienphotography.com

fishblimp Posted October 8, 2009 Share #7 Posted October 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm hoping to get one as well (if Luigi ever returns my email...it's been 3 weeks). I have the Leica grip on my M9 and wondered if the version of the case that allows room for this ends up making the whole case just too big and bulky or not? Or, should I go with the case version that has its own handle (the "Luigi handle")? Also, another thread reports of the cases causing slight wear/marks on the paint (though, it seems to only happen to early M8 versions which indicate that the paint is to blame?). Anyone else have any issues with this on an M8.2 or M9?
scalleia Posted October 8, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted October 8, 2009 Thanks for the insights everyone. One other question I meant to ask. How do the Luigi cases compare to the Leica cases ? Cheers

Anyone else have any issues with this on an M8.2 or M9? I have had mine a couple of months on an M8.2 I bought in July and am beginning to see slightly shiny spots on the paint in a couple of places (on the narrow back face of the base plate and the flat surface just under the hotshoe). The marks are clearly from the stitching where it rubs against the body. Mine is the less expensive ' basic' half-case. I'm not sure if this makes a difference. http://www.tonyobrienphotography.com

Patrick Hey Patrick will the removable flap hang OK if just the top studs are released. that is could you just release the top studs and let the flap hang like the hanging version, r do the bottom studs stifle this somewhat ? larryk34 Posted October 8, 2009 Share #11 Posted October 8, 2009 I'm an extreme Lugi case advocate. I cannot imagine using my M8 or coming M9 without it. I have the one with the grip, which make a big difference in holding on the the camera. I also have the connected flap that hangs down when open. This is never a problem. Once you get used to it, you don't notice the hanging flap at all. I think Luigi recommended getting the one with the permanent flap when I bought it. I sometimes think that if given a choice, I'd take the Luigi case over the camera. The case is a piece of art. Fortunately, you can have them both together. NOTE: I come from the era in which all new Nikon cameras came with a nice full leather case, so I've never used a camera without one.
