Your "Quite a number of years" is encouraging, but one thing we know little about is durability of the digital M's and the inevitable maintenance costs. I'm sailing blind on this with digital, whereas with film M's there is zero concern for a repair bill of any size. A... I totally agree, this is one of my concerns too. I'm relatively sure my M6 and MP bodies, as well as my M lenses will outlive me. Can't say the same for any digital camera I'm sure. IMHO, it is a matter of choice as both film or digital yield fantastic image quality. The decision should be based on the things that really make a difference to you between film and digital (i.e. you want to see instant results, want to do all your post-processing, want to shoot chromes, want to print B&W in the darkroom, etc...) and not based on the visual differences between a file from a digital camera or a scanned negative viewed at 100% in your computer screen or whatever the latest internet guru tells his followers what the correct choice is.
