harmsr Posted November 24, 2006 Share #24 Posted November 24, 2006 The second version has a smaller filter size. It uses a 49mm filter. However, you must also use a snap on hood, where if I remember correctly the first version had the hood built in. The second version was designed for more positive engagement of the focal length changing ring. Optically, they are purported to be the same.
