DaveSee Posted November 24, 2006 Share #21 Posted November 24, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) First of all I would like to stress the fact that this thread is not a rant/rave/****-up, if someone regards it at that, I'm truly sorry... Now for the question; I am a partner/owner of a TV production company which makes TV programs and items for German and Dutch television. My membership here is purely personal for I like taking snapshots and use various leicas for that reason. Upon having visited this site for quite some time now I am astonished by the reaction of most members to the "faulty" M8. These members remain true to there supplier at all times, whatever they do and whatever happens... They will remain to defend the companies strategy. This is something that doesn't happen much, if even at all within other sectors which has brought me to the idea to make a little documentary out of this, well any to pass it on to the production team for further research. We will be interested in quotes and views towards this phenomena and therefor am asking if anyone has a statement or is willing to assist us with the research .... Sorry, but you have not posed a question. Are you really a cog in the media machine? You have asserted fact from abstraction... best to /ask/ first, then /assert/. I do not much care for your "ashtonished" reaction, nor your reporting fact. Please let us know which media outlet has mistakenly accepted your work as objective... I will ignore it. rgds, Dave

blovitch Posted November 24, 2006 Share #23 Posted November 24, 2006 I have only been shooting with Leica for 12 months. So I dont have the "loyalty" that some people have demonstrated. It started with an M7 I bought for using in Churches during Weddings, I then started to enjoy using the Leica. I could carry it around easily with an alternative Lens in my pocket. From there I bought a couple of R9s and a DMR back and semi retired my Canon kit having established just how satisfying working with an R camera was, and how pleased myself and my clients were with the results. I've now used the R9 for everthing including Formula 1 and Moto GP photography. So I bought and M8 with a specific role in mind, and whilst it produces stunning images, the lack of 486 filters, spare batteries, and some of the other issues means that I can't use it, where I want to. I have completed a couple of portrait assignments using the M8 alongside the R9. But at present it represents a non productive lump of expenditure and this is not acceptable. I dont have the loyalty of many of the members on this board. Leica produce fine equipment and I love working with it. However I remain monumentally frustrated at the ongoing lack of communication from Leica.

frc Posted November 24, 2006 Share #25 Posted November 24, 2006 Hoi Martijn, Brand loyalty as the subject of a documentary, well, you'll defenitely find material amongst the Leica community. Leicafiles, collectors, shooters, pragmatic professionals, each and everyone with their own reason to use and or support the Leica brand. I wasn't aware of this fact when I bought my MP, just wanted a small, light and high quality camera. In the DSLR range there was nothing that was appealing to me. Using it intensively for about three years now, I must confess I'm starting to become adicted. Not disregarding the benefits an SLR has in the macro or long lens and not to forget about the very practical zooms, using a RF, a Leica that is, is the most natural and direct way of taking pictures to me. Now a digital RF camera has been launched by Leica there is at least a choice between two, Epson being the other one, we,re waiting to see if Zeiss will jump in to it as well. Perhaps the choice of more than only one company offering FR cameras ( digital, so usable for the professional ) will offer some relief and spread the RF community. What this will do to the ones who chose for pragmatic reasons, is in therms of brand loyalty something we at this moment can only guess. Dig into it, find out, and let us know when it's been broadcasted. met groet, Fr.
