Help with C1 batch processing

OK I'm giving C1 another try but I would like to select a bunch of images and process them all at one time. In version 3.x.x this was simple but in version 4.8.3 I simply can't find a way to add images to the queu to process them at once.

I have tried selecting a series of images and hitting the Process button but only one of the images is processed.

In the manual it talks about creating a Process recipe! Well I don't want one recipe, set of adjustments, for all the images. And then says to mark the files to be processed. I have looked everywhere, menus and right click menu, to find this marking tool to mark the image I want to batch process and can't find it.

C1 is by far the &*&^^%$## software I have ever tried to use.

Naw, all software is the same and this one gives great results. The problem I have with C1 is that nothing works every time I try to upgrade. The security system these guys have in place should qualify them to work for the NSA.

I should add that their support is terrific, I just wish I didn't need it every time I upgrade.

Shootist, first understand the difference between 'adjust' and 'process'. These are terms I can easily mix up.

1st: I assume you have already adjusted each image to your liking. eg. colour, contrast, cropping, etc.

2nd: Ensure that ALL files you want to batch process are in one folder. If they are, and others are there as well, select only the ones you want to process. Process, of course, means output as tiff, jpeg, DNG, scaled as you choose at the dpi you chooe, etc. All these variables form the 'recipe', which you can save and use in the future without re-writing it each time. You can also output from two or more recipes that you have created, simultaneously, say a tiff file and a jpeg, both at any size you nominate. Simply tick the checkbox for the recipe(s) you want.

3rd: Nominate the output folder you want, or create one from the same menu.

4th: Click process and your done.

I hope this is what you are looking for. Once you get over the 'learning hump' I hope you will appreciate C1.

Shootist, I also had the same problem when I first started using C1. After selecting all the photos, I would click on "process" and only one photo would be processed. I received a tip: after selecting all your photos, once you are in process mode, hold down the SHIFT key as you press "process." A little orange circle will appear on all your selected photos and all of them will be processed.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip Helen. I have now changed, unchecked, the other setting, Edit Primary Only, as posted earlier in this thread and now after editing several images I can go back and select them, by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on them, and then clicking the Process button. They now all get process at once.

Glad you found out how to "mark" the images, Ed. They really mean "just select the images you want to process and click the process button"--there's no marking involved. You use the CTRL key to select multiple images discontinuously, and the SHIFT key to select them continuously (just like Windows files).

BTW--you don't even need to leave your editing. Just use the keyboard to process a batch and dump all the selected images to the processing queue. Anytime you want to do this use CTRL-D after you've selected the files you want.

The process recipes are NOT to adjust files for wb, exposure, etxc... they're so you can batch output many different files from the same "develop."

So you can have a recipe for a small JPEG at 50% quality in sRGB for the Web, a high quality 16bpp TIFF at full resolution in Adobe RGB, and a CMYK drop for your printing proofs--all from the same develop action.

If you go into the sub menu on the recipe, you can specify an output subdirectory (eg, JPEG, TIFF, CMYK) and all the develops will go to the right directory relative to the output directory.

Once you set up the recipes, you select them (click the checkmark next to the recipe) and the next time you batch process you would get 3 files instead of just one.

Make sense?

A difference worth noting between C1 and C1 Pro. When selecting a group of files for processing, once selected in PRO, it is not necessary to hold the ctrl key to process the whole batch. I think this may be where shootist may have got confused.
