pentax makes a hotshoe/pass through and cable to hotshoe that preserves ttl and lets you mount a viewfinder or pocket wizard on the top of the camera.

only issue is the cable comes out to the right-other than that it works fine. I had to trim some plastic on the foot to get the leica flash all the way in but other than that it does ttl.

its called pentax hot shoe adapter F and they have a long and a short cord available.

out of stock right now at bh.

Thank you Lars for keeping this up, and Sean too !!!

I'm quite confident - with your commitment ! - , there will be something else in the M10. But for us M9 users, there should be a solution, too.

Maybe a hot shoe pass through with cable adapter AND an additional cold shoe as in the Thumbs up device, which should be not interfering with the flash.

Thanks a lot - and keep it up !

As many use the Nikon extension leads with their Leica Flash Units would the Nissin SC01 Universal extension lead which claims to be work Nikon, be compatible with the Leica Flash electricaly, it has all the correct hot shoes for getting over the Viewfinder-Flash co residency problem. The Leica flash gun could be mounted on a standard L flash bracket. See http://www.microglobe.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?pName=nissin-universal-shoe-cord-sc01-for-nikon-canon-and-more

Sean you bring up a good point. Maybe that is one reason Leica hasn't included a flash (PC) socket on the M8 or M9. It can only be used to fire a flash but not give any control over it.

Not sure why the Nikon SC 28 is so tall. I was looking at mine this morning and it does come apart, there seems to be 5 screws holding it together. Maybe taking the top part off and retro fitting a different top part with cold shoe would be feasible.

I'll look into it when I get the chance.

I would bet it is technically possible to make a much thinner version of the SC-28 with a cold shoe on the top. I imagine the Nikon one is not smaller because there was no (Nikon SLR) reason for it to be.

Cheers,

Sean
