londonuk Posted October 4, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have seen and am interested in buying a Leica M2. This M2 is quite battered and is olive green with black knobs. Does anyone know the origins of such an M2 ? Thanks

jlancasterd Posted October 4, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 4, 2009 I have seen and am interested in buying a Leica M2. This M2 is quite battered and is olive green with black knobs. Does anyone know the origins of such an M2 ? Thanks Are you sure that it's an M2? There were three series of M1 cameras produced in olive green for the German army in the 1950s and 1960s, but no M2 AFAIK. However... conversion of the M1 to M2 specification was a service offered by Leitz during the same period...
Riccis Posted October 4, 2009 Share #4 Posted October 4, 2009 I believe there were also olive M3s but don't have any knowledge of M2... Cameraquest is a good source for any additional info you need... Good luck with your purchase!
londonuk Posted October 4, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted October 4, 2009 Thanks for your replies. The camera was in the cabinet in the shop, so couldn't see numbers. It's an M2 for sure. It's £600 in the store and very very well used.
Riccis Posted October 4, 2009 Share #6 Posted October 4, 2009 Thanks for your replies. The camera was in the cabinet in the shop, so couldn't see numbers. It's an M2 for sure. It's £600 in the store and very very well used. For that price, I'd say it's a repaint... Even if well used, an olive M2 sounds pretty unique (if they were ever made by Leica) and I would expect to see a higher price... Cheers,
