I found that when I see a scene, it is not about choosing one or the other lens. The 35mm FOV always get priority but there are some shots that just will work only with a long lens (because of distance, barriers, thin DOF need, ...) . From my experience : 35mm : 80% of shots 75/90mm : 15% of shots Wider or longer : 5% of shots If I can cover 95% of shots + a little creativity (or crop) for the remaining 5%, I feel gear does not get in the way and I can focus entirely on the environment. Yes, I know, and I agree, but the 2 lens + body is blody hell expensive... Anyway, I might need to get some advice here on the blog how to convince my family... :-) Well at the end I might get the two crons at the same time... Thanks for the advice anyway! Keep shooting!! jonoslack Posted October 6, 2009 Share #63 Posted October 6, 2009 And let me tell you, that I truly-truly-truly believe that having 1 body + 1 lens gives you much more freedom and liberating feeling compared to making constant decisions again (as in DSLR world) which one to carry, which one to pack, etc. I recall, having only the (non interchangible) fixed lens of Leica Minilux with me, never had a feeling that I miss a longer lens, because I knew, there is no "other" lens. Instead I had to figure out how to solve the situation with the current gear. And I did. And I will. Absolutely - on our recent trip to Crete I used a lens for each day (I did take the alternatives, but tried not to use them). It's a great way to take pictures. When you're thinking about the 90mm . . don't write off a secondhand elmarit (last model with lenshood). It's small and lovely, and mine has been rather a revelation on the M9 . . .if you want new the summarit also seems really good (and small) . . . .and small is the purpose of M isn't it? You can go for a 35mm Cron version + 90mm Cron, latest pre-asph version. I owned them in the past and regret selling them, they have such a beautiful rendering. They do pop up every once in a while in ads (Summilux if you understand some French) or Ebay in Europe. Latest price I noticed is around €700 for the 35mm and €500 for the 90mm. The sum of both is roughly the same of a used Cron Asph and significantly less than a 35mm Lux Asph. Once you get used to that and if you feel the need, upgrade to the Asph ones. I think I have one chance in the life to get the M investment landed and I would like to get it right :-) So if I go the M9 + 35 cron + 90 cron I know that I need to be in ddep-deep quiet for a long time and I can't even open a debate to get another lens... (OK it's not that bad, but I do think that I play too hard on my wife's nerves nowadays :-) Yesterday I ordered a Canon 7D as I traded in my 40D, and also ordered all the LFI - Leica Fotografie International magazines (I mean ALL) + all the LensWork magazine (again, ALL magazines :-)... So I am really-really bending the borders of my family Universe... My Canon 40D has no protection at all and there are no scratches at all, despite I give them a hard time (I am climbing mountains with it in snow, rain and wind, etc). Go for it! dseelig Posted October 7, 2009 Share #69 Posted October 7, 2009 I own the wate 24 35 50 and 75 luxes that said, since getting my m9 my most used lens is the 35 lux second is the 50 . 3rd is the wate 4th is the 75. 5th the 24 .
