hector_jorge Posted October 2, 2009 Share #1  Posted October 2, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a black Leica SL2 I bought 20 years ago, used but in mint condition. I never use the camera because I have other two Leicas R, an R4 and an R6-2. Today I try to put two of my R lenses in the camera, but none of them can be fitted. When I put the objetives in the camera mount, a small clearance remains between the lens and the mount, so the lens can´t be turned to its final position. The camera is a SL2 Nª 1391746, and the lenses are: Elmarit R 1:2,8/90 Nª 3616773 and Elmarit R 1:2,8/28 Nª 3779364. The camera (without the lens, of course), seems to work well, even though the long time it was stored. Any help, please?

Hi Hector, Your SL2 date of 1974 according to the number of series Your Elmarit optics R 90mm dates from 1993 The other optics 28mm dates from 1997 see this link: Summilux - Numéros de série I think that it is a history of cam see this link sorry but in French: La monture Leica R How many cams have you behind your lens ? because it said : " with one cam R only: On 1976-1996, economic version, sometimes spotted "only For Leica R" (1) usable only on R3 to R9, therefore all range R, outside three Leicaflex Regards Henry
wizard Posted October 2, 2009 Share #3 Â Posted October 2, 2009 Hector, Â Henry is correct, your lenses are most likely 'R only' lenses (it might even say so on the lens barrel), that is they have only the R cam for transfering the aperture set on the lens to the camera body. Â What you will need for your SL2 are so-called 2cam or 3cam lenses. 3cam lenses are to be preferred, as they will work on both the SL2 and any R-Leica body (2cam lenses will work only on the original Leicaflex, the SL and the SL2). wildlightphoto Posted October 3, 2009 Share #5 Â Posted October 3, 2009 Your lenses can be retrofitted with the Leicaflex metering cams. The bayonet flange on the lenses will also need to be either modified or exchanged for SL2-compatible flanges.
hector_jorge Posted October 3, 2009 Author Share #6 Â Posted October 3, 2009 Many thanks Henry, Andy and John for your help. Very interesting the articles. I put all of them in my computer desktop for future reference. Fortunately I have a Macro Elmarit 1:4/100 and a Summy 1:2/50mm that I keep for a long time outside my home. That lenses are older than the others and both has the 3 cams that my SL2 needs. Tomorow I will take some pictures with the camera to try how it works after so long sleep. Kindest regards. tobey bilek Posted October 9, 2009 Share #7 Â Posted October 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Have the proper cam fitted and this may involve removing the ROM.
wildlightphoto Posted October 9, 2009 Share #8 Â Posted October 9, 2009 Have the proper cam fitted and this may involve removing the ROM. Â Correct, ROM is incompatible with the SL2. The SL2's follower for the first cam (aperture readout in viewfinder) would foul the ROM contacts.
