Advertisement Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Hi bso888, Take a look here M8 UV/IR Filter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
delander † Posted October 1, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 1, 2009 No, I'm afraid it cant be properly fixed in C1 or in post processing. Many have been down that road. Get the filter, colours are then beautiful. Jeff
Nicoleica Posted October 1, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 1, 2009 I think that you will find that it's far easier to get, and use, the UV/IR-cut filter. Besides the odd black-to-purple colour shift, there are colour effects on foliage and other materials. Also, the IR can adversely affect sharpness. It may be possible to correct all of this in C1 or some other software, but the amount of work involved could be substantial. Also, using the filter helps to protect your expensive lens from damage too.
uptong Posted October 1, 2009 Share #4 Posted October 1, 2009 If you 'correct' in pp then any colour in the image that should be magenta/purple will also be affected as well so the short answer is not really. If you Google the question many pp 'fixes' are around but it's universally accepted that the best method is the IR/Cut filter solution. Leica still offer the two free filters, for purchasers of new camera bodies, when you register on line. If you buy used then your not so lucky. There are a number appearing on the s/h market now in varying sizes, both Leica and B+W which can save a bit if you need to buy. Ffordes for instance have a number on their site at the moment - Used Equipment - Digital Camera - Leica M8 Accessories section.
bso888 Posted October 2, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted October 2, 2009 Thanks for all of your help. I will get the filters if this is the case.
paisatge Posted October 2, 2009 Share #6 Posted October 2, 2009 I guess it's probably ok if you shoot B&W. For colours, just get the filters and forget about fixing in post-processing.
AlphAlphA Posted October 3, 2009 Share #7 Posted October 3, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Shooting with the M8 without IR Cut filters is not recommended. You may save as much as 60% on IR Cut filters on eBay.
