leica007 Posted September 30, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 30, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I finally fondled an M9 at Mayfair, London:D Since everybody already knows everything that one needs to know, I am not describing the camera in details. Here's just an overview. The grey paint looks really cool, much much sexier than flashy chrome. I am told the ratio of black: grey production is 4:1. The shutter sound of M9 is close to my MP, a tad louder. the black one looks like an MP, slightly shinier. Leica needs to take that M9 engraving and the red dot out! The Mayfair shop is small and really cosy. The staff are friendly (although most of them have come from DSLR camera business and are new to RF! - that's what I was told). They even offer you drinks, albeit non-alcoholic. There's a studio upstairs; later, you will get S2 training there. [The location is also strategic; after ordering your M9 and S2, you can walk 50m and enter the Bentley and Rolls Royce showrooms and order a matching car. Later, you can pick up your bespoke suit from a Savile Row tailor. ] They have a good collection of leica M lenses; almost all, except 90mm cron. You get to handle a grey paint and a black M9. there's also a pre-prod S2: it's a gaint. They also have print samples. the boxer's portrait with noctilux, which you find in the brochure, looks amazing. On the supply: I am told that the supply will normalize , i.e. you can buy on the spot, after mid-November. the october supply goes to people on the waiting list (of about 19). you can join the queue, without paying any advance. Training/workshop : held every Thursday. morning session is for the owners and the afternoon one is for pre-owners. If you call them, and leave your number, they shall call you back, which is good. on the whole, it seems people in the UK can look forward to good service from the Leica shop. gravastar Posted October 1, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 1, 2009 I thought I saw the 90 'cron in one of the lower cabinets. What I didn't see was a Noctilux I asked them about the Noctilux 0.95 a couple of weeks ago and they said they hadn't seen or handled one yet. I believe Ivor at Red Dot Cameras has supplied people so he may have one in stock. If you're serious it would be worth checking. Bob.
leica007 Posted October 1, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted October 1, 2009 My apologies, I should not have mentioned "almost all". No, Noctilux was not on display. May be some others were missing too. May be they have it inside the store, but not on display.
chris_p Posted October 1, 2009 Share #5 Posted October 1, 2009 I shall be interested to visit the new Leica shop in Mayfair and, when appropriate, to buy there but am mindful that we 'locals' (and others who have received good service) have a duty to the best of the Leica approved dealers who have served London for many years. I hope the playing field is even when it comes to allocation and suspect that part-exchange and commission sales will remain the province of the independents. microview Posted October 1, 2009 Share #6 Posted October 1, 2009 I hope the playing field is even when it comes to allocation and suspect that part-exchange and commission sales will remain the province of the independents. Very cordial amosphere. They do not anticpate Leica favoring them over supplies; they don't intend to part-exchange. "If you call them, and leave your number, they shall call you back, which is good. on the whole, it seems people in the UK can look forward to good service from the Leica shop." Yes – they emailed with the news:eek: that late October my M9 order should be fulfilled. And they apologised for this delay!

I don't think Ivor currently has the Nocti in stock, though he was expecting one, if memory serves, next week. He has a 21mm Lux, but not the 24mm
sclamb Posted October 4, 2009 Share #8 Posted October 4, 2009 I don't think Ivor currently has the Nocti in stock, though he was expecting one, if memory serves, next week. He has a 21mm Lux, but not the 24mm I bought the 24 Lux that Ivor had and he does have a 0.95 Nocti in the cabinet. Simon
