Leicaiste Posted September 29, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) This week-end I was wondering why on the M9 I am using the 28, 35 and 50 mm, whereas on the M8 I rapidly stopped using the 24 and rarely used the 35 mm. I was always using the 28 mm (and the 50) or the 3E (on 28 and 50). After comparison, I think there is one main reason: I was never comfortable with the 24 and 35 mm frames showing together in the M8 finder. They were never supposed to do that when Leica has designed the 24/2,8 Asph, long before the M8. Also, the resulting focal lens of the 24 mm (32) seems to close of that of the 28 mm (37,5) for the burden of using those confusing frames and a bigger lens. And the 24 mm frames were showing even less of the real coverage of the final picture than other lenses IMO. The bottom line for me, is that the M9's frames, like on the MP and M7, are offering a cleaner view with those lenses and make their use easy again. In a way, the same apply to 75 and 90 mm. I am using them both more than I was using them on the M8, where they were also less useable in my opinion because the frames of the 90 were really small and those of the 75 less visible. For my use the M9 is more of a system camera than the M8 was. Five useable set of frames instead of two (or three). I'm sure that some will prefer the M8's frames for their own use, like the 50 mm being a 66 mm. The downside for me is that now my Billingham Hadley Pro is heavier (again). But then, I may have less use of my DSLR (again too). ;-) Lucien
