R. Gordon Posted November 22, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 22, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I own an M2 (purchased new for $200 in 1970) and an M7. Sold my M6 a year ago. Last month I went to Chicago and accidentally picked up my M2 instead of my M7. Quite a tribute to the design of the M3 and M2, I'd say. I've been shooting Ilford XP2 Super in my Leicas for about five years. In the past year I've pretty much given up my darkroom (been printing since 1966) in favor of my Epson R2400 printer. I have my film processed and scanned at good lab and make my own prints. I'm sure I'll own an M8 one day but since I shoot mostly with my 35mm lens I won't buy an M8 until I also can afford a 28mm lens so I have the perspective of a 35mm. At today's prices that's about $6200 U.S. I can buy a lot of film and pay for processing for $6200.
Advertisement Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Hi R. Gordon, Take a look here Digital Leica M2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
DTD Posted November 22, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 22, 2006 I do the same as you (XP2 and negative scanner) with my M6 and Ricoh GR1. For colour work I do use a dSLR (Olympus E-1). Can't say I like scanning though.

Be caareful in comparison - the 28mm doesn't deliver you the same DOF as the 35 mm does in film, due to the crop factor. With the same aperture you have a wider DOF which sometimes is boring. All the literature talks about the magnification factor of 1.33 with the M8. If that's the case, why would DOF with a 28mm on an M8 be different from the DOF using a 35mm (more precisely 37.24mm) with an M7 and film? Thank you.
